Job summary The Speech and Language Therapy team at Princess Alexandra Hospital are looking for a senior therapist to join our team on a permanent basis.
Individuals seeking to develop advanced dysphagia and leadership skills, or a current Band 5 therapist seeking to progress within the acute setting would be ideal for this role.You will independently manage a caseload of adults with acquired communication and swallowing disorders, actively initiating and participating in the interdisciplinary decision-making around patient care and developing service delivery initiatives.This is a part time role of hours per week.
Main duties of the job The post holder will independently manage the caseload of adults with acquired swallowing and communication disorders, actively initiating and participating in the interdisciplinary decision making around patient care and developing service delivery initiatives.
The post holder will maintain an overview of the competing demands for speech and language therapy service, managing service delivery and keeping their line manager informed of pressures to self and service, prioritising the caseload and administrative workload to meet capacity demands.
The post holder will be responsible for organising the Speech and Language Therapy service in accordance with Departmental and Trust policies and procedures.
The post holder will apply evidence-based practice in order to manage a specific caseload of patients with complex neurological needs under supervision.
To maintain personal professional status by ensuring that the requirements laid down by relevant professional body for periodic registration to maintain personal professional licence are complied with.
To exercise professional accountability as guided by the relevant professional body and maintained in accordance with the policies of the department and The Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust.

Person Specification Qualifications Essential SLT Degree Qualification or equivalent HCPC Registration Desirable Member of RCSLT Experience Essential Experience in assessment and treatment of adults with acquired communication disorders and swallowing difficulties Desirable Experience in delivering training and education Supervision of students / juniors / assistants Knowledge Essential Established knowledge of a range of appropriate therapeutic interventions Good understanding of the roles of other professionals in the MDTs including, occupational therapists, physios, dieticians, etc and the interface between primary and secondary care etc Negotiation and Problem Solving skills Desirable Awareness of the principles of clinical governance/audit
