As a Band 5+ Scrub Nurse, you will play a critical role in supporting surgical teams during a variety of procedures, ensuring patient safety, maintaining a sterile environment, and assisting in the efficient running of the operating theatre.Key Responsibilities1.
Clinical DutiesAssist in Surgical Procedures: Prepare and maintain a sterile field for all surgeries, ensuring the correct surgical instruments, supplies, and equipment are available.
Assist the surgical team by providing instruments and supplies during procedures, anticipating the needs of the surgeon.Sterile Technique and Infection Control: Scrub in for surgeries, ensuring that aseptic techniques are adhered to, and sterilization procedures are followed to prevent infection.Support Surgeons and Theatre Team: Anticipate the needs of the surgical team, passing instruments, suction, and other necessary tools to ensure a smooth flow of the operation.Patient Safety: Monitor the patient's position on the operating table, assist with draping and ensuring that the patient remains stable and secure throughout the procedure.Specimen Handling: Ensure specimens are accurately labeled, stored, and sent for pathology according to protocol.Assist with Recovery: Post-surgery, assist with patient preparation for the recovery area and ensure a safe transition.2.
Preparation and Equipment ManagementTheatre Preparation: Prepare the theatre for each procedure, ensuring all instruments and supplies are sterile and correctly laid out according to the surgical plan.Check and Maintain Equipment: Ensure that surgical instruments and equipment are functioning correctly, including troubleshooting and maintaining laparoscopic systems, microscopes, and other specialized theatre tools.Inventory Management: Help manage the inventory of surgical instruments and consumables, ensuring stock levels are maintained and materials are ordered when necessary.
Person Specification Qualifications Essential Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) Registration: The nurse must be registered with the NMC to practice as a registered nurse in the UK.
Experience Essential Experience of working in ENT or Gynaecology Theatres
