We are looking to recruit a Community Staff Nurse to join our enthusiastic and innovative School Nursing team.We welcome applicants who are trained nurses with experience in working with children and families as well as newly qualified nurses who have a keen interest in School Health.Applicants should be committed to team working and possess excellent interpersonal skills.
Successful applicants will be working as part of a multidisciplinary team of school health staff who will work with children, young people and families to identify relevant health needs and ensure these are addressed in line with the approved service pathways.
Main duties of the job The post holder will work within their allocated district supported by the School Nurse to assess the health needs of individual children and the school population as a whole.
They will also support other districts within their team where need arises.
They will proactively address factors affecting health to ensure that children and young people achieve the best possible outcomes and will work with vulnerable children and families to reduce the risks of social exclusion and health inequalities.The successful candidates must have:Nursing qualification and on the NMC registerExperience of working in the community or in a Paediatric post and knowledge of child development, health promotion, public health and safeguarding children would be an advantage but not essential.You will be offered an induction programme, mentorship and a supportive environment, in which to work.

Job description Job responsibilities To work as a member of the Birmingham School Health Support Service undertaking work delegated by the SCPHN and/or Team Leader.To plan and deliver care for identified health needs and to evaluate care plans at regular intervals.To complete health care plans for children and young people with medical conditions in school, liaising with specialist nurses and GPs where indicated.To deliver medical needs training to school staff using the approved teaching packages from Birmingham School Health Support ServiceTo engage in multi-agency working as appropriate.
Working in partnership with clients and other professionals to deliver evidence based care evaluating the care given and sharing the outcome with the delegating School Nurse Specialist Practitioner.To carry out home visits and work within wider community settings, as directed.To attend and participate in staff meetings and other meetings as directed.To work to Birmingham Safeguarding Children Board policies and procedures.To adhere to BCHC record keeping guidelines including entering information onto the Trust data collection systems.To mentor and assess pre registration student nurses on placement within the team.To support the induction of new members of staff in the team.To work to Birmingham Community Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust policies, protocols, procedures and guidelines.The post holder must be familiar with Microsoft outlook, word and excel.To participate in clinical audit as required.To undertake drop in sessions for young people in schools or community settings.To participate in the PDR process, completing mandatory training and any other training identified as essential to role.To work flexibly including up until 6pm on weekday evenings and occasional weekends to meet service needsManagement and Leadership ResponsibilitiesDevelop and empower all members of your team to perform to high standards and innovateSupport the development of staff knowledge and skills to promote equality and diversity and address inequalities both in employment and service delivery.
