The Company's trading and investing activities are driven by its proprietary research platform and information flow from its daily activity in the wholesale power markets. CCI participates in the markets for electric energy, capacity, ancillary services, and financial transmission rights across all major power regions in North America and Europe.
Position Summary The employee will be providing in-depth analysis of the European energy market with a focus on the EU power market. They will report directly to a senior power trader in London. The role will entail the creation and maintenance of both new and existing fundamental supply and demand models as well as pricing models, which will then be presented in a usable format for the trading team. This will allow the successful candidate to make a meaningful contribution to the desk's trading strategies.
Responsibilities Perform power market research and analysis directly supporting trading activities, with a predominant focus on the short-term market.Report and communicate data to both the research team and the desk's risk takers; exploring price and fundamentals relationships.Be a key contributor to efforts to:Design, develop and continuously improve both fundamental supply and demand, and power pricing models, that support the desk's trading decisions.Support and improve the power desk's extensive set of proprietary analytical tools.Integrate new models within the power desk's existing computer modeling infrastructure.Work closely with other analysts as well as with traders to identify market opportunities.Monitor market, industry, product and pricing trends for energy related news (prompt and curve).Perform ad-hoc analyses for trade ideas and other projects.Qualifications Essential to have a PhD in Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, or a related field of study.Experience in an analytical role covering European power markets is desirable.Individuals must exhibit strong communication skills as well as strong quantitative abilities.Individuals must have the ability to solve loosely defined complex problems with minimal supervision.Excellent computer programming skills are essential, especially in Python:Experience in programming in an organization with a strict version control culture.Experience in optimization, usage of mathematical solvers, LP and/or MILP.Demonstrate a passion for markets, modeling, and the energy industry, and show a dynamic approach to learning.
