Purpose The Associate Director, Strategy will lead the Strategy team to ensure organisation-wide development, implementation, integration, and evaluation of Wellcome's strategy. They will set standards for measuring the impact of Wellcome's activities to enable informed decision-making and organisational learning.
Responsibilities Oversee the creation, refinement and implementation of the organisation's overall and portfolio-level strategies.Lead strategic horizon scanning initiatives.Work in partnership with the Executive Committee to ensure activities are aligned towards Wellcome's strategy, providing regular counsel and guidance to the Board and Executive Committee on such matters.Co-develop strategies of our five Strategic Programmes.Facilitate integrated portfolio planning and delivery of research, influence, and engagement activities with the Solutions Programmes: Mental Health, Climate & Health, and Infectious Disease.Guide the development and implementation of impact monitoring and evaluation frameworks to assess portfolio and programme effectiveness and impact direction.Drive the delivery and monitoring of Wellcome's strategy through departmental plans.Oversee strategic corporate planning and the OKR process to align organisational goals and resources.Contribute to the creation and development of a high performing and inclusive culture across the organisation to retain and attract talent.Core criteria Proven track record of working in a global and complex organisation, working closely with the CEO and playing a lead role in strategy development and delivery.Significant experience of organisational strategy development and facilitation.Significant experience in leading teams and directing and coaching others to consistently deliver high quality services.Significant experience in strategy and planning; preferably in a research, global health or global development organisation.Proven experience of building an organisation's change capability and delivering change in complex environments.Experience of developing and implementing impact measurement approaches.Experience of organisational planning, converting strategy into concrete delivery plans.Experience of managing budgets, headcount, and leading positive, high performing teams and inclusive working cultures.Experience in a strategy consulting firm or across the private sector is desirable.Skills Strong interpersonal skills with a collegiate approach, ability to secure buy-in from colleagues and influence outside reporting lines.Excellent management skills; able to lead, motivate and develop highly skilled multi-disciplinary teams.Demonstrated expertise in developing and implementing global and business unit/ division strategies.Experience in designing and managing impact monitoring and evaluation frameworks for science or health programmes.Strong experience of corporate planning processes and of aligning organisational goals with resources in complex global environments.Experience in developing and implementing capacity-building initiatives to enhance organisational skills and capabilities.Proven track record of leading and managing large teams, with C-Suite exposure.Application Process Wellcome has appointed Taylor Birchwood to support this search.
