What you will be doing: As an Assistant Psychologist at Emerald Place, you will be working as part of a team to support the assessment and treatment of young people aged 13 – 17 years old who are admitted to a General Adolescent Unit (GAU) with a range of mental health needs.
Under the supervision of a Senior Clinical Psychologist, you will contribute to psychological assessments of young people admitted to the ward, including the administration, scoring and reporting of standardised and routine outcome measures.
You will contribute to comprehensive multidisciplinary team (MDT) assessment of young people's risk by contributing to the completion of standardised risk assessments and Structured Professional Judgement (SPJ) tools.
Under supervision, the post-holder will support in the development and writing of formulations of young people's difficulties.
You will take on a role in the delivery of evidence-based psychological interventions, co-facilitating a range of group interventions with young people.
Under supervision, you will evaluate the effectiveness of interventions and will report of these findings.
As an Assistant Psychologist, you will also carry out some individual interventions under supervision where clinically appropriate.
As an Assistant Psychologist for the team, you will support the implementation of clinical audits, service evaluations and service-related research, and will support in administrative tasks where necessary to support effective service delivery.

As an Assistant Psychologist you will be: • Assisting in psychological assessments of young people through tasks such as administering psychological self-report measures, and conducting direct and indirect structured observations, under the supervision of a Clinical Psychologist.
• Assisting in the formulation and delivery of care plans involving the psychological treatment and/or management of a young person's problems, under the supervision of a Clinical Psychologist.
• Assisting in the co-facilitation and running of therapeutic groups, under the supervision of a Clinical Psychologist.
• Delivering manualised individual psychological interventions to young people, where clinically appropriate, Under supervision of a Clinical Psychologist.
• Assisting in the implementation of audit and research projects.
• Undertaking data collection, analysis, the production of reports and summaries, using IT and statistical programmes.
• Undertaking searches of evidence-based literature and research to support evidence-based practice in the team.
• Supporting with administrative tasks to support the effective working of the team.
To be successful in this role, you will have: Essential: • Psychology degree accredited by British Psychological Society (BPS) at 2.1 or above OR Psychology degree accredited by BPS at 2.2 and additional relevant Masters qualification OR Degree plus Masters level conversion qualification accredited by BPS • Experience of working in relevant area, either voluntary or paid.
• Experience of working collaboratively with others.
• Experience in designing projects and analysing the outputs.
• Competent in the use of SPSS for Windows including setting up databases, statistical analysis and presentation of results.
• Experience of working in challenging environments and managing multiple demands.
• Experience of working with individuals experiencing high levels of distress and/or presenting with challenging behaviours.
• High level of interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal), including the ability to support individuals who may be experiencing significant distress.
• Sensitive, non-judgemental and compassionate approach to working with people experiencing distress.
• Ability to understand, interpret and assimilate complex information from multiple sources into high-quality written information.
• Commitment to high quality patient-centred care.
• Proven ability to undertake duties in a confidential and sensitive manner using tact and diplomacy where necessary.
• Ability to collect clinical data and maintain accurate records.
• Ability to work independently or as part of team.
• Good IT skills, including ability to use clinical systems and Microsoft Office.
• Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
• Able to demonstrate a commitment and understanding of the importance of treating all individuals with dignity and respect appropriate to their individual needs.
• Ability to withstand exposure to emotional or distressing circumstances.
• Ability to manage professional boundaries.
• Ability to accept and use clinical supervision appropriately and effectively.
Desirable:  • Further post graduate training in relevant areas of professional psychology, health services and/or research design and analysis.
• Further training course relevant to the field of clinical psychology e.g., mental health or psychological therapies.
• Experience of working with children and/or young people.
• Experience of working in inpatient mental health settings.
• Experience of working with individuals presenting with risk to themselves or others.
• Experience of completing risk assessments.
• Experience of psychometric testing, scoring and report writing.
• Experience of facilitating psychologically informed groups.
• Ability and confidence to interact effectively with staff from all disciplines, including non-clinical staff and senior staff.
• Practical working knowledge of at least one relevant psychological approach e.g.
CBT or DBT.
Where you will be working: Location Emerald Place, Farmfield Drive, Charlwood, Surrey, RH6 0BN Surrey and Borders Partnership NHS Foundation Trust and Elysium Healthcare have worked in partnership to provide a new purpose-built Tier 4 Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) in Surrey.
Emerald Place Clinic is a 12-bed general adolescent inpatient unit for the care and treatment of young people aged 13 up to the age of 18.
You will be part of a team who supports young people who required inpatient assessment and/or treatment for a range of mental health needs.
