How the role will make an impact: The Assistant General Counsel is an international position that will support the Senior Vice President- General Counsel & Secretary in providing all sides of legal work for the company and business units located throughout Europe, Asia, Australia, and South America and advise various company connections at all levels with respect to legal questions.
This is an additional member to the team to support and advise on environmental compliance; contractual interpretation, drafting and negotiation; intellectual property law; corporate governance, subsidiary management; litigation; international business matters; corporate policy; employment/labour law and other legal areas as necessary.
Key Responsibilities: Corporate Governance.
Commercial Contracts.
Litigation and Dispute Resolution.
Mergers, Acquisitions, and Divestitures.
Compliance.
Employment Law.
Environmental, Health, Safety and Sustainability.
Support SVP - General Counsel by implementing and administering short-term and long-term strategies impacting the organisation's legal function.
Support the SVP-General Counsel in preparation for Board and participate in Board committee meetings.
Initiate and promote knowledge sharing and implement best practice guidelines.
Identify critical project risk issues and make recommendations to senior management.
Participate fully within the legal team and provide guidance and support to the Associate General Counsel – America as needed based on workflow, expertise and experience.
Key Skills: UK-qualified solicitor or barrister with a valid practising certificate.
Proven experience either in-house at a publicly traded company or at a law firm with experience working with corporate clients.
Prior experience in the manufacturing sector or a related industry is preferred.
Familiarity with NYSE-listed company requirements and cross-border legal matters is highly desirable.
Strong business acumen with a focus on the importance of understanding and partnering with company associates at all levels.
Solid knowledge of UK and EU regulatory frameworks, including compliance, employment law, and corporate governance.
Experience with GDPR and trade compliance would be a plus.
Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
Flexibility to accommodate different time zones and occasional travel to the U.S. and other global locations.
Superior academic credentials and excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills.
