Carr Gomm are looking for are looking for enthusiastic individuals to join us in delivering an Appropriate Adult Service in Dundee, working on a self-employed basis.The primary objective of the Service is to ensure, as far as possible, that no member of the community is disadvantaged by their mental disorder during any police process.The role of the Appropriate Adult is completely independent from the Police.What is an Appropriate Adult?Appropriate Adults provide communication support to vulnerable victims, witnesses, suspects and accused persons, aged 16 and over, during police investigations and other investigatory bodies as set out in the Criminal Justice (Scotland) Act and "the regulations" Appropriate Adults, Guidance for Local Authorities.An appropriate adult is not there to give legal advice; this is the role of the solicitor.Definition of Mental Disorder:The definition of a mental disorder is as described in the Mental Health (Care and Treatment) Scotland Act and includes the following:Mental Health IssuesLearning DisabilityAcquired Brain InjuryDementiaWho can be an Appropriate Adult?
Someone who can be available to be called upon at any time during the day/night, in line with rota requirements.
