Job summary Midwife band 6 Antenatal and Newborn Screening TeamAn exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated and enthusiastic Midwife to join the Antenatal and Newborn Screening Team at Mid Yorkshire NHS Teaching Trust .
As part of our team, you will play a key role in delivering woman-centred care, offering counselling to women following screen-positive results, and supporting families through the decision-making process.

Collect and collatematched cohort screening data for quarterly and annual data returns.
Write and presentscreening programme reports at local, regional and national level.
Participate in audit,education of staff and guideline development.

Job description Job responsibilities KEY RESPONSIBILITIESPRINCIPAL DUTIES & AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITYClinical Support the Antenatal and Newborn Screening Team in delivering the Antenatal Screening programmes to Women & Babies.
To assist the Antenatal and Newborn Screening Coordinator with all positive results received from the laboratory for the antenatal screening programmes and make arrangements to inform, counsel, support and appropriately liaise with other agencies and provide care and care pathways throughout the womans pregnancy until the postnatal period.
Assist in data collection of the Antenatal and Newborn Screening programmes ensuring outcomes are measured to assure quality standards.
Provide direct clinical advice and support to meet the needs of pregnant women.
To assist the Antenatal and Newborn Screening Coordinator with assessing, developing, implementing, and evaluating programmes of care.
Initiate and advise directly on referrals to other specialties.
Ensure use of evidence based practice using standards, audit, and clinical risk assessment.
Advise and maintain effective communications with other professional stakeholders and voluntary organisations, aiming to provide comprehensive and seamless care across boundaries and to promote woman and public involvement/ participation in healthcare.
Assist the Antenatal and Newborn Screening Coordinator with developing specialist policies and protocols.
Promote and maintain good working relationships within and outside the Trust, utilising opportunities to promote the specialist service.
Assist the Antenatal and Newborn Screening Coordinator as an educator in antenatal screening for midwifery and medical colleagues and other disciplines within a range of settings.
Assist the Antenatal and Newborn Screening Coordinator with the provision of mandatory training for midwives in all Antenatal and Newborn Screening programmes.
Work closely with obstetricians, medical staff, midwives, laboratory staff and primary care professionals to promote and develop evidence-based quality Antenatal and Newborn Screening Services.
Co-ordinate and manage any relevant clinics (within speciality/service).
Report incidents via Datix and follow national guidance for screening incidents.
Support women and their families and ensure that they receive the required information to enable them make informed choices.
Prepare for and participate in quality assurance assessments and assist in implementing any subsequent action plans.Managerial In the absence of the Antenatal and Newborn Screening Coordinator, co-ordinates the programmes and team.
Sustain mechanisms to support womens involvement and feedback.
Be a resource for health care professionals by being visible, available, and accessible for support and advice in relation to the specialist area.
Manage ongoing workload effectively.
Attend and participate in meetings as required, including providing feedback and disseminating information as appropriate.
Uses appropriate IT systems to input information regarding pregnancy and screening, including details and results of investigations.
Promote best practice in relation to clinical risk and governance issues and identify areas for improvement.Advocate Ensure that high standards of midwifery care are given and maintained and act when standards are not being met.
Involve women and families in the planning and delivery of care.
Be the womans advocate and ambassador respecting patient confidentiality and privacy with respect for diverse cultural backgrounds and requirements.
Recognise, prevent and diffuse potential areas of conflict.
Clinical Governance / Quality Ensure compliance with policies, procedures and clinical guidelines for self and others.
Assist to develop and influence policy making and clinical guidelines internally and externally, necessary to support the specialist nursing service.
Participate in monitoring standards of care through benchmarking and clinical audit.
Support and facilitate research ensure evidence-based practice in the specialist area.
Promote peoples equality, diversity and rights.
Identify clinical issues and incidents within the Trust that reduce the quality of care within the specialist service brining any issues to the attention of the Matron.
Take part in activities to counter these to ensure the delivery of safe and effective care.Education / Training Takes responsibility for own continuing professional development and performance, including identifying own development needs and maintain own portfolio in accordance with re-registration requirements.
Participates in the supervision and the teaching of pre-post registration students, new staff members and junior medical staff.
