Job summary We have opportunities to join the Welsh Ambulance Service Non-Emergency Patient Transport (NEPTS) team delivering patient transport at various locations across Powys Teaching Health Board area.
We are looking for full and part time staff to cover the following stations Newtown Llanidloes and Llandrindod Wells Staff will be required to operate out of other stations across Powys localities as and when required.
This can be a demanding but rewarding role, and we are looking for candidates that can deliver a high standard of professionalism and compassion when providing a transport service to meet the needs of patients and other service users.
No formal qualifications are specified for this role, but we would expect candidates to be able to demonstrate a reasonable standard of education and personal responsibility and have evidence of delivering excellent customer care.
Interviews will be held on 4th January 2025 in Swansea and candidates that are successful at interview will be required to attend and pass a driving and road signs/theory tests and assessments which will be held in Swansea on 11th January 2025.
Course Start Date: 14th April 2025, the Training course is held in Swansea and is six weeks duration, this includes practical and theory assessments which candidates are required to successfully complete.
After which staff will be deployed to their roles in the Powys Health board area.
Main duties of the job The post holder will be required to drive an equipped NEPTS Ambulance vehicle or other vehicle as necessary, and carry out non-urgent and non-critical, planned patient journeys usually working with a colleague but sometimes working alone when dealing with patients who can walk unaided or with minimum assistance.
The post holder deals with a variety of patients and conditions, most of whom will require different levels of assistance, lifting or carrying to transfer to and from the Trust vehicle.
The post holder transports patients safely between their place of residence and designated treatment centres and clinics, provides where necessary appropriatecare and assistance which is within the post holder's level of training and competence, and adheres to the Trust Code of Conduct and Standards of Professional behaviour, Service Instructions and the Trust's Standing Procedures and Policies.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
Shift cover includes 0600 hrs starts and up to 1900 hrs finish on a Monday - Saturday basis including bank holidays.

Person Specification Qualifications and/or Knowledge Essential No specific academic qualifications are required, but a reasonable standard of general education is expected Successful completion of the 3-week PCS Foundation Course and Station Induction, and a period of up to 12 month's on PCS Grade 1 duties Sound geographical knowledge of area served and able to read a map Moving and Handling techniques, and general awareness of risk, health and safety issues and responsibilities Desirable First Aid at Work certificate and successful re-certification every 3 years Awareness of relevant Trust and PCS policies, procedures and working practices Sound knowledge of use of Trust vehicles and relevant equipment Basic First Aid and Highway Code.
Experience Essential Dealing successfully with people, often elderly or vulnerable, in a caring, sensitive and compassionate manner Aptitude and Abilities Essential Able to work alone with minimum supervision or as a member of a team Good verbal and written skills able to convey information and complete all necessary documentation accurately and legibly Desirable Ability to speak Welsh Values Essential Good interpersonal skills, able to deal with patients, often elderly or vulnerable, in a caring, sensitive and compassionate way Logical thinker, able to identify appropriate route and make decisions within Trust procedures.
Other Essential Current driving licence for Class B with a maximum of 3 endorsement points, and no convictions for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
