We invite you to become an integral part of our dynamic team in the Midlands Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust (MPFT) and Keele University!An exciting opportunity is available to join our Team as an Advanced Specialist Pharmacist/Academic Clinical Educator in our Education, Governance and Medicines Information team, which is relatively new at MPFT.
With the changes to undergraduate training, placement provision and Pharmacist Prescribing we are looking for a key member to support and steer the department.
You will be a dynamic, ambitious and confident Pharmacist to support training to undergraduates, Pharmacy and the wider MPFT network.Alongside teaching responsibilities, there will be an expectation of a clinical commitment within the Trust.
Candidates will be supported to undertake Mental Health Certificates and/or Independent Prescribing where needed.
The department will also support the candidate in undertaking Doctoral Studies/PhD as part of a development pathway.This unique position offers a 50/50 split between clinical excellence and academic innovation.
Based at St. George's Hospital, Stafford, with frequent travel to our other hospital sites of the Redwoods Centre in Shrewsbury and the Haywood Hospital in Stoke-on-Trent, you will play a vital role in delivering high-quality Pharmacy care while shaping the future of the profession.
Main duties of the job Act as Academic Clinical Educator on behalf of Keele University and as an Advanced Specialist Pharmacist at the Midlands Partnership Foundation Trust (MPFT).Lead, develop, facilitate and deliver Education and Training programme(s) for Pharmacists, Trainee Pharmacists, undergraduate Pharmacy (MPharm) Students and other multidisciplinary staff across MPFT.Develop and facilitate the delivery of a robust clinical training programme, including the mentoring, supervision and practical aspects of placement visits for Keele MPharm students across all MPFT sites.
Contribute to undergraduate teaching and supervision at Keele University in areas appropriate to the post holder's clinical expertise.Co-ordinate medicines related training, education and competency assessments for registered and non-registered clinical staff employed within MPFT, developing new training and to delivering the training where required.Develop, support and participate in clinical pharmacy audit and practice research within the field of specialist knowledge.
Work as an Independent Prescriber within a designated clinical service.Participate in the provision of clinical pharmacy ward services, including providing expert support and highly specialist advice to other healthcare professionals on Pharmaceutical matters and medicines use.Participate in the provision of dispensary services, including clinical checking of prescriptions, final checking of dispensed medicines and counselling patients as required.

We are proud to be a diverse and inclusive organisation and there is a choice of staff networks that help you meet like-minded people.Please note, we may be required to close this vacancy early if we receive a high volume of applications Job description Job responsibilities Act as Academic Clinical Educator for Keele MPharm students in collaboration with Keele University; responsible for all elements of the MPharm placement programme at MPFT such as developing and delivering robust training programme and developing effective evaluation strategies to facilitate experiential learning.Implement and manage change in relation to regional and national education policy initiatives.Facilitate the clinical training programme and the mentoring and supervision of Keele MPharm students and collaborate with colleagues at Keele University to develop assessment tools to evaluate their performance.Deliver a high quality patient-centred clinical Pharmacy service to wards/ community services across the Trust sites, utilising Independent Prescribing (IP) qualification as per agreed scope of practice and competence.Visit agreed ward(s) to provide a clinical pharmacy service, at the agreed frequency, prioritising according to time allocated.
This will include:Obtaining an accurate drug history for patients on admission and on discharge by supporting teams in operating effective medicines reconciliation.Providing regular drug chart reviews, ensuring compliance with UK medicines legislation, trust policies and procedures, risk management, specialist advice to medical, nursing and other healthcare professionals and engagement with patients and carers about their medicines.Provide Pharmaceutical input at multidisciplinary team (MDT) reviews and ward rounds.
Record clinical interventions made according to clinical service SOPs.Formulate treatment plans for patients, considering their presenting symptoms, medical and psychiatric history (including previous responses to medication), and the evidence base for pharmacological approaches in that condition.Work closely with the Consultant Physicians, other clinical Pharmacists, and medical staff to promote key prescribing messages, facilitate cost-effective prescribing, reduce the unnecessary or inappropriate use of medicines, and improve therapeutic drug monitoring.Utilise IP to optimise medicine regimens for patients, ensuring appropriate medicines are prescribed or de-prescribed after assessment.
This will be line with GPhC registration requirements and be formally agreed with all appropriate and relevant clinicians.
As an IP pharmacist the post holder will: Practice within the scope of GPhC registration.Adhere to the Trust Medicines Code and SOPs in relation to scope and responsibilities of role.Comply with the Trust Medicines Formulary.Be responsible for providing on-going evidence of competency in relation to their prescribing role.Promote safe, rational and economic use of medicines in own specialist area.Promote compliance with the Trust formulary.Normal Pharmaceutical duties in dispensaries when required.Support and facilitate clinical pharmacy team and CPD meetings where clinical cases, evidence based practice and learning from incidents are discussed.Answer queries from clinical staff and service users received through the PaMO Medicines Information Service, working to agreed procedures to ensure quality standards are met.TrainingAct as the Designated Supervisor, mentor and professional role model to one or more specified Trainee Pharmacists and and also mentor to the Foundation Year Trainees undergoing training at MPFT.Provide advice and pastoral support to Foundation Year Trainees through the role of a Designated Supervisor/Line Manager.In conjunction with the Education, Training and Patient Safety Pharmacist, lead the Foundation Year programme for trainee Pharmacists.
