The RoleThis post is a Specialist technical post within the NHSL Pharmacy Cancer Care team.
The aim of the team is to provide pharmaceutical support to patients in NHSL who receive systemic anti-cancer therapy (SACT) and to clinicians responsible for prescribing and administering SACT.
In addition to working as a member of the Pharmacy Cancer Care team, the post holder will liaise with clinicians, patients, Pharmacy Homecare Team and homecare companies to ensure that a safe, effective and efficient service is maintained.
The Pharmacy Cancer Care Technician will also carry out general duties associated with SACT services including working within the Cancer Pharmacy dispensary area, counselling and educating patients receiving SACT / supportive medicines, answering queries and maintenance of databases relating to SACT homecare medicines.
The Pharmacy Cancer Care Technician will spend one day a week funded through an SLA with NHS GG&C to support the regional cancer medicines governance process for the West of Scotland Cancer Network (WoSCAN) with the following key responsibilities:Be an integral member of the regional medicines governance pharmacy team.Supporting the operation of the Regional Cancer Advisory Group (RCAG) Prescribing Advisory Subgroup (PASG).Progression to professional secretariat role for PASG, with the support of the medicines governance pharmacist.Support the medicines governance pharmacist in the day to day co-ordination and maintenance of the Systemic Anticancer Therapy (SACT) protocol library and regional non-formulary processes and reports.This list is not exhaustive of the post.
The service operates across Lanarkshire and the post holder will be based within University Hospital Hairmyres and may be required to travel to the 3 acute sites within Lanarkshire and Board Headquarters.
Additional Duties / Information Specific to the RoleAssisting with the development of services involving the provision of oral SACT medicines delivered directly to patients from an accredited homecare organisation.Monitoring homecare supplier adherence to contractual obligations and existing service level agreement Communicating with patients on oral SACT to resolve queries or issues they may have with their medicines Working closely with the Pharmacy Cancer Care Team and the Pharmacy Homecare Team.Assisting with education of patients receiving oral SACT and any supportive medicines.Organising and maintaining electronic and paper systems for efficient and accurate storage of records relating to patients and the services they receive.Recording SACT homecare service information to spreadsheets, databases and other relevant electronic systems as necessary.Assist Cancer Care Pharmacy Team in dispensing of oral SACT and supportive medicines.Assist in the co-ordination of collection or delivery of medicines for cancer patients.Assist in supporting processes for the community pharmacy dispensing of oral SACT.NHS LanarkshireHave you always wanted to work with NHS Lanarkshire?

Substantial experience as a qualified pharmacy technician in hospital pharmacy.Experience in dispensing Discharge/OPD/in-patient prescriptions.
Experience in providing a ward/department stock top-up service.
Experience in supervision of other staff or of a functional area of pharmacy.Thorough understanding of hospital pharmacy services.Computer skills/key board skills.
