The Finance & Treasury function are offering four Industrial Placement opportunities across Financial Management, Financial Reporting, Treasury, Data & System.
Each Industrial Placement opportunity will help you develop the knowledge, skills and behaviours to inform your career choices and contribute to the development and improvement of Nationwide's processes, products and services in your department.
We'll need you to build rewarding relationships across the organisation and externally to understand customer needs, resolve problems and support the delivery of the Society blueprint.
You'll also attend development workshops and complete a project with other Industrial Placements aligned to our Social Impact strategy.
Our Industrial Placements provide a direct pathway to a future role on our graduate development programmes post-University.
Here in the Finance function, we make sure we spend our customers money wisely, so they get the most benefit.
As a function, we are made up of diverse individuals, skills and capabilities that enable us to provide financial partnering services, produce statutory and regulatory reporting, raise wholesale funds & maintain liquidity.
We provide lending for social housing, create and deliver a financial plan, manage stress testing requirements, provide and maintain financial systems and technology and drive the development of our Society Strategy.
Location At Nationwide we offer hybrid working wherever possible.

For Financial Management, Financial Report or Data & Systems, you'll spend at least two days per week, based at our Swindon head office.
For Treasury you'll spend at least two days per week based in either Swindon or London.

What you'll be doing Financial Management The Financial Management pathway consists of our business partnering teams and our Financial Planning and Stress Testing (FP&ST) team.
We have three business partnering teams in Finance and their role is to partner with different parts of the Society to provide financial information, insight, analysis, and challenge.
These teams work incredibly closely within their areas and various stakeholders, supporting them to achieve their goals and objectives but also bringing a good degree of commercial challenge.
The FP&ST team are responsible for producing the 5-year financial plan including the cost plan and developing the relevant stress scenarios to test the Society's resilience within diverse macroeconomic and market stresses.
The team also help to manage Society's in-year performance including the reporting of a balanced scorecard to the Board and meeting cost & efficiency targets.
On the Financial Management pathway, you could be working in areas including: • Financial Planning and Stress Testing • One of our Business Partnering teams - Retail Business Partnering, Mortgages and Financial Wellbeing Business Partnering, or Chief Operating Office Business Partnering Financial Reporting This team is responsible for Nationwide's financial reporting, including the Annual Report and Accounts, as well as a range of regulatory financial reporting.
They oversee Nationwide's accounting approach, ensuring it's in line with accounting standards and based on appropriate judgements and are also responsible for the more complex accounting areas, such as treasury activities and loan loss provisions.
The team also includes a reconciliation function and a separate team for tax calculations and reporting.
On the Financial Reporting pathway, you could be working in any of these teams: • Financial Reporting • Financial Controls and Operations • Operations and Strategic Development Treasury The Treasury team ensures Nationwide remains financially safe, secure, and sustainable.
The team operates key functions such as managing various balance sheet risks such as our liquidity and capital positions, raising wholesale funding from financial counterparties and hedging our balance sheet (e.g.
interest rate and foreign exchange risk), Within the Treasury pathway, you could be working in one of the following areas: • Balance Sheet Risk Reporting & Forecasting • Balance Sheet Risk Framework & Modelling • Recovery & Resolution • Sustainability & Investor Relations Finance Data & Systems This team is integral to ensuring Nationwide's financial and prudential reporting and analysis systems meet requirements for the building society to produce business critical and regulatory reports.
The team works closely with data and IT teams across the society to develop solutions and access new technologies to improve the society's performance.
On the Financial Data pathway, you will be working in our Data & Systems team.
Over the year you will be taught coding techniques, complete change requests to existing reporting, be involved in projects rebuilding or developing new reporting and forecasting, and involved in society wide system upgrade and change processes.
A knowledge and interest in a coding language (e.g.
VBA, SAS, Python) is beneficial for this area.
You'll gain access to a bespoke 12-month project aligned to our Social Impact strategy to develop core business skills, providing opportunities to learn new skills and apply them in a different context to your day job.
You'll build a community and work alongside a range of diverse like-minded Industrial Placements from across the organisation.

VBA, SAS, Python for the Finance Data & Systems role Entry requirements: The 12-month placement runs from Sept 2025 - Sept 2026 • You must be studying toward an undergraduate degree in any discipline.
