Job DescriptionDB ESG has a requirement to bolster their Welding Engineering capability to support a wide variety of clients across the rolling stock industry.
With a history of investing in their people and promoting from within, DB ESG is open to a variety of candidate seniority levels, and our highly competent engineering team will be on hand to support those who are willing to expand their scope of expertise.Due to their varied market and large training budget DB ESG will bring stability and job security, while allowing you to benefit from the friendly, personable and supportive culture that comes with working in a smaller team.The candidate will be a highly flexible individual with a background in welding, and welding engineering, but who is also interested in work in diverse engineering areas.You will take the role of DB ESG's Responsible Welding Co-ordinator Level A and also get involved with a wide range of technical challenges including reverse engineering, vehicle repair procedures, additive manufacturing, audits, problem solving, and new technology R&D.
This position would be ideal for someone looking to expand their welding engineering capabilities whilst also maintaining the variety from a more varied position with the autonomy to find out information and come up with their own solutions.
Some example project types for this Welding Engineer Role:- Conduct rail vehicle damage inspections and develop repair procedures - Reverse engineer obsolete parts using cutting edge scanning and manufacturing technology - Problem solving aging fleet cracking issues working with the structural engineering team to develop rectification strategies and repair procedures - Conducting audits of welding suppliers against EN15085 within the UK and internationally - Assisting customers with the introduction of new systems and processes to align with EN15085 Requirements for this Welding Engineer Role:- 5 years' + in railway welding engineering or welding in another applicable industry.
- Welding Visual Testing (VT) Level 2 (EN ISO 9712) - Detailed knowledge of the EN15085 series of standards and their application.
- Degree qualified in Engineering or other STEM subject or equivalent skills ia an apprenticeship route.
- Proved report writing capabilities with high quality written communication skills.
Useful skills for this Welding Engineer Role:- Expertise in Material properties (Corrosion, painting and coatings, adhesives, composites).
- Experience with creating repair procedures (such as corrosion repairs) - Auditing capabilities - Knowledge of Wire Arc Additive Manufacturing and the requirements for ensuring consistent quality of printed parts.
