Technical Manager – Sport World Championship This role would provide a high level of customer support that is appropriate for a World Championship Racing Series using complex technology, and would ensure: There is a single go-to person with the power and budgetary responsibility to resolve important technical matters, in some cases with immediate effect (not a coordinator).
Exact alignment and effective communications between all stakeholders.
All technical issues are properly documented and communicated to all stakeholders in a timely manner.
Any underlying design faults causing technical issues are properly investigated with thorough engineering analysis, and subsequent reports are distributed to all stakeholders in a timely manner.
All Team "Race Vehicles" are properly maintained, and all Teams adequately supported technically with a focus on fair competition.
Focus is kept on the bigger picture, by not being involved in the hands-on maintenance or systems operation of the "Race Vehicles".
Overall technical leadership for the sport and the necessary strategic direction to UIM & the race series on technical rules & policies.
The successful candidate's previous role would have ideally been "Head of Technical Operations", "Head of Sport" or "Technical Program Manager" and they would typically be comfortable engaging with stakeholders both cross-functionally and externally, as well as utilising some of their own technical knowledge.
Responsibilities Senior Technical Leadership Take ultimate responsibility for all technical matters as the Teams' principal point of contact and provide insight using personal engineering knowledge.
Lead and organise all "Race Vehicles" departments, and ensure alignment across all Teams, series, and UIM Implement and lead a Fault Review Process, whereby: All issues experienced are documented and distributed in a written report to all Stakeholders no later than 2 days after an event.
Which includes details of each fault's immediate diagnosis and the work that took place.
And includes details of proposed next steps and timeframes for any required investigation and engineering analysis (Fault Investigation).
Which is then reviewed during Technical Working Group meetings with the Teams, 3 days after an event Oversee all information documentation and distribution to Teams & stakeholders Effective "Race Vehicles" supplier relationship management to ensure; updates are rolled out on time, spare parts are always available, suppliers held accountable for any issues Necessary budgetary responsibility to resolve/implement technical matters quickly and effectively.
Technical Specification Management & Analysis Oversee regular fleet-wide reviews of "Race Vehicles" specifications to ensure parity.
Lead analysis of component and system degradation over time.
Oversee any Fault Investigations with thorough engineering analysis and distribute a Fault Investigation Report with proposed solutions and timeframes to all Teams in a timely manner Lead the testing and technical roadmap of all "Race Vehicles" spec changes (e.g.
regular "Race Vehicles" - only component testing at Europe sites).
Create necessary policies and sign-off procedures to ensure any updates are race-ready.
Manage the spare parts inventory and availability for Teams at races (alongside the Sporting Manager).
Review equipment Teams are provided with and provide solutions to continually improve operations (e.g.
ensure the tools provided to Teams match requirements).
Series Technical Strategy Provide strategic direction to UIM & series on technical rules & policies.
Work with UIM to produce a set of extensive technical regulations that ensure safety and fair competition while allowing the Series' long-term objectives to play out.
Lead ongoing development of the Series' technical function.
Conceptualise future "Race Vehicles" developments.
Explore more sustainable manufacturing and operational techniques that can be used to reduce overall environmental impact.
Candidate Attributes Ten years+ in a Technical Director role within an international racing team or Series i.e.
F1, WRC, MotoGP, WEC, Formula E, Americas Cup, Sail GP, Powerboating.Comprehensive knowledge of technical policies, procedures and best practice in top level motorsport.
Educated to at least degree level in an engineering subject.
