Please apply for this job as soon as you can, if interested*** Access to Communication and Technology (ACT) Service An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Technical and Stock Assistant to join the team within the Access to Communication and Technology Service.
Access to Communication and Technology is a specialist electronic assistive technology service, which is based at the West Midlands Rehabilitation Centre, Selly Oak, Birmingham B29 6JA.
We are aservice made up of clinicians (Occupational Therapist, Speech and Language Therapists, Health Care Scientists and assistants), technicians, stock and admin staff providing specialist assessment, set up, provisionand maintenance of electronic assistive technology to meet the needs of children and adults who require Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) and Environmental Control (EC).
We are a friendly, enthusiastic, experienced and supportive team who work collaboratively as part of a national network of similar services, all funded by NHS England.
Main duties of the job ACT is an electronic assistive technology service that provides Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC), Environmental Controls (EC) and computer access as well as a mounting service.
The post will be working in the ACT Technical Service, a team of technical staff that support the clinical team in delivering electronic assistive technology solutions to clients.
The post holder will work under the direction of the Senior Technician for their daily duties.
To support the smooth running of the department this role is split between technical and stock support.
To perform the annual maintenance including statutory electrical safety testing, generally in domiciliary settings (ie patient's homes) and also supporting device/stock management functions including deliver/collect equipment, reimage devices and complete decontamination.

Ensure that equipment supplied by ACT is safe to use and in good repair by performing the annual maintenance checks.
This involves a careful visual examination of the device, its accessories and the mains connections and cables, a functional inspection followed by an electrical safety test to confirm that the device meets the Statutory Electrical Safety Testing requirements and completion of the clinical review questionnaire.

To conduct unaccompanied visits to clients to inspect existing equipment.
These environments are often cramped and occasionally unpleasant conditions.
This could include schools, hospitals and nursing/care or the clients home.
This could be shadowed by trainees or other healthcare professionals on occasions.

Identify and resolve basic faults on complex equipment.

Be able to use electrical safety testing equipment, and hand tools requiring fine precision, eg screwdriver, tweezers, hammer etc 5.
Maintain and manage their own levels of stock (eg chargers, batteries etc), to be carried with the post holder when out on visits to clients home.

To support collection and delivery of equipment from the local environments of the clients.
This will sometimes involve meeting with carers and families of deceased clients and communicating in a sensitive manner and will require the post holder to travel to locations anywhere within the West Midlands region using their own vehicle 7.
To support the completion of the necessary regular software updates for ACT equipment (for demonstration and provision).

To complete decontamination of returned stock in accordance with Trust policy and ACT procedure, ensuring the equipment is fit to be returned to stock, identifying when repairs are necessary and raising the appropriate requests for this to be done by the technical team.

Reimaging of returned equipment and subsequent return to stock.

Basic pool car maintenance.
Checking on water/oil levels topping up wash bottles.
To take vehicles to garage for repair / service as directed by admin.
Over see the cleaning of vehicles.
Reporting any damage to admin for repair or recorded.
Professional 1.
To work under the direction of a senior technician and liaising with administrative staff to plan the visit timetable and reschedule in response to changes.

To make accurate detailed entries in the equipment management system (BEST) and electronic patient record (RiO) of all work performed and in line with trust guidelines and UK data protection requirements, of visits done and all equipment tested for client and ACT use.

To use appropriate equipment documentation and training information for clients, carers and other professionals.
4.
To complete other administrative tasks within the workshop as necessary, including record keeping into the ACT Information systems 5.
Be able to communicate with other professionals within ACT, relaying appropriate information including some clinical information, to the appropriate people.
To undertake other duties commensurate with this grade of post in agreement with the relevant line manager.
To minimise the Trusts environmental impact wherever possible, including recycling, switching off lights, computers, monitors and equipment when not in use.
Helping to reduce paper waste by minimising printing/copying and reducing water usage, reporting faults and heating/cooling concerns promptly and minimising travel.
Where the role includes the ordering and use of supplies or equipment the post holder will consider the environmental impact of purchases.
