Student Product Support Engineer (12 Month Placement, September 2025)

Student Product Support Engineer Product Support are first and foremost responsible for providing support to all lifecycle products.
We work closely with our Engineering Development department, but also work closely with our Production, Production Support, Purchasing, Compliance and Quality Assurance departments.
Also, there is a requirement to provide support for Sales and Service.
Much of our work is reactive to deal with day-to-day issues encountered on the production assembly lines, alternative part sourcing and approving, and general modelling and drawing updates.
On the proactive side, ownership of each of the Man Elevating Work Platforms (MEWP) models is the responsibility of the engineers within the Product Support team.
Key parts of this aspect are maintaining the top-level assembly models within Creo and maintaining the Technical approval files to ensure they are always up to date.
We are also heavily involved in bigger projects within our own department and supporting engineering development projects.
The Engineering department is located in Milton Keynes, Niftylift headquarters and the Product Support department is situated adjacent to the engineering Development department and overlooks the assembly production lines.
  1      Relationships:         Responsible to Senior Product Support Engineer         Liaison at all levels across the following departments: Development, Product Design, Production, Production Support, Compliance, Purchasing, Quality, Sales and Service   2      Key areas of responsibility and the deliverables expected:         Assist the Product support team with day-to-day tasks         Investigate and understand problems encountered through shadowing stakeholder meetings and via the EIR and Engineering Change Control processes         Collate investigated information into a format which enables findings to be easily communicated / presented         Carry out model / drawing changes and develop basic skills in drafting, modelling & detailing         Design solutions at part and sub assembly levels under guidance of more senior engineers 3      Main tasks:         Daily support for existing MEWP products in production         To action Engineering change requests         Assist with problem solving and requests, which have been raised at Stakeholder team meetings and from customer feedback for existing products, and support the Engineering and Production departments to implement the solutions.
        Provide technical support for Quality and Purchasing departments         Prepare CAD/manage models in Creo under guidance of more senior engineers         Modify and produce drawings within AutoCAD and Creo to BS8888 under guidance of more senior engineers.
         Observe the operation of first off production builds and provide feedback to interested parties         Produce process documentation and work instruction to support introduction of new designs/customer options under guidance of more senior engineers         Work safely to standard operating procedures         Maintain high standards of workplace organisation and cleanliness 4      Qualifications / experience         Working towards an Engineering degree.
5      Experience/interests in the following areas would be advantageous for this roll:         Vehicle/Off-road vehicle design         Practical experience with vehicle maintenance         Exposure to / experience with CAD software         To have an appreciation of control systems, structural design, hydraulics, packaging and recognise the importance of good product quality 6    Nifty MPDS In the longer term, the Nifty MPDS is open to Undergraduates and Graduates The Niftylift Monitored Professional Development Scheme (Nifty MPDS) is a structured training programme to develop well-rounded professional engineers who can design safe and efficient products, run projects, and manage teams in industry. The scheme is accredited by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers and supports development towards Chartered and Incorporated Engineer professional registration under the UK Standard for Professional Engineering Competence (UKSPEC).

However, other avenues can be pursued either within the Engineering department or the wider organisation.
Examples of possible future roles and specialisations within the engineering department are: Structural engineer; Hydraulics engineer; Electronics engineer; Control systems engineer; Mechanical development engineer; Value engineer; Data analyses; Programmer; PLM; Compliance engineer; Functional safety systems engineer.
