Senior Sales Engineer (Presales) - Optical Routing & Switching

Customer-facing sales team representative working with Account Managers / Account Director focused on named accounts in the Western region which includes UK, France, and other countries.
Perform technical tasks, including written proposals, optical transmission network design and engineering and quotes. Must be able to communicate solutions to customers and manage ongoing technical relationship. Also work with the internal client organization to drive product requirements and provide customer feedback to product management.
ResponsibilitiesNetwork and applications engineering for my client's productsWork with customer engineering teams to design optical network solutions based on state-of-the-art fiber optics technology and ultra-high-capacity technologies.Have knowledge about Routing and Switching and be able to raise the right questions to identify OpportunitiesDrive the technical introduction of new products and concepts to the customerAnalyze and evaluate the customer's technical requirements, propose network architecture solutions, and respond to RFIs, RFPs and other customer requestsProvide product and technical expertise to support sales efforts of transmission, switching and data products and SDN Management systemsComplete sophisticated network designs for customer using optical networking products.Expertise in using network design and modelling toolsAccurate and timely generation of quotes, proposals, and detailed equipment listsInterface with sales group and product management/marketing to develop and/or propose product enhancements to meet customer requirementsInfluence Customer requirements and translate high-level customer requirements into system requirementsMaintain and grow technical expertise, product knowledge and sales skills through ongoing trainingUnderstand competitor's offerings and explain the technical advantages of Ciena's solutions.Serve as a consultant technical resource for customer-related issuesAct as the first-line support "Go-To" person for allocated sales opportunities20% travel requiredRequired SkillsStrong technical knowledge of core optical networking is a must including DWDM, ROADM, 100G/200G/400G transmission, OTN technologies and DCI SolutionsTechnical knowledge in data networking including understanding of IP/Ethernet and other data networking protocolsBeneficial is the technical knowledge of Software Defined Networking, network orchestration Network Function Virtualization.Exhibit a high degree of presentation, interpersonal and communications skillsProven ability to work in a team oriented environment, taking on-board round table discussions on solution architectureMentor other Systems EngineersAbility to respond to RFP's and communicate technical quotations accuratelyGeneral knowledge of computers and application programs (e.g. MS Office)Flexible, able to handle multiple tasks with minimal supervisionDESIRED CHARACTERISTICSHighly motivated technical individual that desires to work on application of advanced transport architecturesThe ability to demonstrate leadership in technical sales activitiesAbility to understand customer needs and use technical expertise to develop customer solutionsAbility to develop customer relationships and work well with customersFlexible individual that can handle multiple tasks with minimal supervisionTeam playerTechnical Degree, BSEE or equivalentOptical networking experience
Prior Systems / Sales Engineering experience would be a plus.
Prior experience as a contributor on a sales account team
