Job Description Attention Safety Managers!
If you have detailed understanding and experience in the management and delivery of hazard analysis and safety evaluation and assurance processes, along with the ability to integrate them seamlessly with the system engineering process, this opportunity is for you.
Are you ready to take on the challenge of shaping safety practices in cutting-edge products?
Job Title : Safety Manager Salary : Circa £70,000 depending on experience Location : Stevenage (We may be able to offer a relocation package for this role) Dynamic (hybrid) working : 3 days per week onsite due to workload classification Security Clearance : British Citizen or a Dual UK national with British citizenship Restrictions and/or limitations relating to nationality and/or rights to work may apply.
As a minimum and after offer stage, all successful candidates will need to undergo HMG Basic Personnel Security Standard checks (BPSS).
The opportunity: This is an excellent opportunity for a Safety Manager to manage the delivery of safety engineering outputs across multiple projects through developing and supporting safety engineers with varying levels of experience.
Working within a matrix organisation structure, you will be accountable to the Chief Systems Engineer of each project and the Department Head of Safety and Reliability.
The Role As a team and independently, your role will involve liaising with design engineers, project controllers, customers and other stakeholders to ensure on-time delivery of high quality Hazard Analyses, Safety Case Reports and other safety engineering outputs, including your own.
This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer to exploit their leadership skills to influence the safety aspects of technically sophisticated and exciting products using a range of techniques and approaches.
By understanding the system and its operating context, you will decide what type of evidence will most cost-effectively show that the identified hazards have been mitigated to the customer's satisfaction.
This role is about balancing time and cost constraints to ensure that a convincing safety case, comprising appropriate evidence, is constructed.
It calls for pragmatism and a solid appreciation that safety results from good engineering, not just compliance with numerical targets.
This will involve optimising the effort devoted to safety assurance, with the goal of balancing safety against the inherently lethal attributes required of complex missile systems.
What are we looking for?
Track record as an effective team leader with strong interpersonal and influencing skills and the ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary / multi-national team, both within MBDA and with our customers.
Demonstrable knowledge of, and experience in, the application of UK and International safety and system engineering processes, especially Def Stan 00-056.
Ability to generate and deliver Safety Case Reports and the supporting information (Hazard Analysis, Functional Failure Analysis, FTA, etc) to show that the identified hazards have been mitigated to the customer's satisfaction.
A passion for developing others, such as new starters or members of our Early Careers Programme to ensure that as a team you are adequately staffed across each project, and that engineers are available to work on tasks that best match their skill sets and skill levels.
Thorough understanding and experience of how safety evaluation processes integrate with a systems engineering product certification process.
Good knowledge of complex electronic systems and the associated safety issues (but other engineering subject areas, such as design, software, manufacture, etc, will be considered for candidates with the right strengths in other areas).
