Job summary We are excited to offer a new opportunity for an enthusiastic and experienced Pharmacy Technician to lead education, training and development of the Pharmacy Technician & Assistant workforce in Pharmacy at Velindre Cancer Centre.
We are a forward-thinking and innovative department with a history of developing advanced roles for our Pharmacy Technician team.
We remain focused on further developing our people as we prepare to move to our new home at nVCC in Spring 2027.
The postholder will be responsible for pre-Registration Pharmacy Technician and Pharmacy Assistant training, and will contribute to the training and development needs of the wider department, delivering the highest standards in Education and Training for all.
You will work as part of a specialised, friendly team whilst also working independently using your own initiative to undertake dispensing, final checking, mentoring/training and supervisory duties as required.
The successful candidate will be a highly competent and dynamic pharmacy technician with considerable knowledge and skills.
They will be able to demonstrate leadership in previous roles, show a passion for developing people and have experience in delivering educational programmes, innovation, service development, appraisals and mentoring.
Main duties of the job To ensure the training needs of Pharmacy staff are met by co-coordinating/delivering suitable training to enable them to safely and confidently perform their duties.To work with the Lead Pharmacist: Education and Training, Chief Pharmacy Technician and Directorate Leadership Team to oversee training provision for the Pharmacy department as a whole.To continually review the training programmes within the Pharmacy service, undertaking training needs analysis and identifying requirements for improvements or change in the training provided.

Technician Registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council Knowledge of hospital dispensary processes An up-to-date knowledge of pharmacy practice Desirable Leadership / management qualification Specialist knowledge of systemic anti-cancer regimens Knowledge of Change management Medicines Management Technician Accredited Experience Essential Significant post qualification hospital pharmacy experience Experience specifically related to Education and Training and workforce planning Experience of managing and mentoring staff Experience of electronic medicines management systems Knowledge and experience of appraisal process Desirable Knowledge of NVQ process Oncology experience Experience of SACT electronic prescribing systems Experience of EPMA Able to generate new ideas and ways of working to support the Trust's strategy and objectives Skills and Attributes Essential Team player, with ability to lead and motivate self and others Able to work independently Able to organise own time and that of others Able to prioritise workload and that of others, ensuring that the work is completed within project timescales.
Good interpersonal and communication skills - verbal and written.
Advanced keyboard skills needed for accuracy to manipulate data and accurately input data.
Good numeracy and literacy skills Able to work accurately with attention to detail Able to measure and prepare medications for patients, including cytotoxic products.
Desirable Demonstrates initiative Good IT skills Assertiveness skills Calm manner Welsh Language Skills are desirable levels 1 to 5 in understanding, speaking, reading and writing in Welsh
