The Role Part of the engine room of our Communications team within the Corporate Affairs function, developing, delivering and advising on critical communications projects, that strengthen and protect Lloyd's reputation and leadership with a breadth of audiences – from underwriters, brokers and capital providers, to customers, policymakers and regulators, and talent – through a breadth of communications channels.
Principal Accountabilities Delivery responsibilities Lead communications projects that:
Are multi-stakeholder (reaching a breadth of audiences) and multi-channel (include traditional media, social media, owned media inc website, direct-to-market, conferences/speaker platforms, and/or paid media), and deploy the right content to engage these audiences.
Are underpinned by a clear strategy in terms of organisational objectives, priority audiences, strategy, execution, and measurement and evaluation. Projects may be short-term e.g. specific announcement and/or event or milestone, or long-term e.g. advisory role to another function.
Bring together knowledge and insights from specialists across the function and the organisation.
Activate the Lloyd's central narrative, through the creation of external-facing messaging and including long-form (e.g. speech writing) and short-form content (e.g. social media posts).
Counsel to Head of Communications in overall communications strategy, by helping to translate organisational strategy, and overarching Corporate Affairs strategy, into impactful communications.
Identify critical organisational insight/stories and package them up in a way appropriate to Lloyd's target audience groups, and priority themes.
Bring creativity and a grasp of trends in new content and channels to reach our key audiences.
Advisory role to senior leaders in other functions to balance their strategic needs with the agreed communications strategy for the organisation, ensure prioritisation and consistency and manage expectations ('as an internal client').
Spot risks and issues – internal and external – and pre-empt them, with mitigating solutions.
Lead on measurement, evaluation and reporting of your own communications projects.
Leadership responsibilities Co-lead and manage the team of communications experts, including:
Working closely with the other Senior Managers in Communications, the Head of Communications and Chief of Staff to ensure the right people are allocated to the right work based on:
Organisational priorities.
Individual capacity.
Areas of particular, individual interest and opportunities and needs for personal growth.
Setting consistently high standards in Communications outputs and overseeing the quality of work delivered by the team.
Develop and strengthen relationships with key individuals in the function (including within the Sustainability, Research & Strategic Partnerships, and Government Policy & Affairs teams) and across the organisation, to help identify, shape training and upskilling opportunities for this team.
Provide timely and constructive feedback on all work delivered by more junior people in this team, providing input and feedback into reviews, objectives and personal development plans.
Skills Passion for and knowledge of insurance and financial sector, and the role that Lloyd's can play.
Excellent writing skills, ability and willingness to adapt style and format to target audiences.
Ability to create, and sometimes, commission content, from short-form (copy) to longer-form (film, graphics, speeches).
Grasp of impactful speechwriting for senior executives, that command attention and impact and deliver on organisational strategy.
Passion for the breadth of communications channels and disciplines, and the flexibility to learn and deploy this breadth, and learn from and share knowledge with others.
Grasp of the importance of audience insight and measurement, in support of strategic communications.
Collegiate approach and proven track record of excellent teamwork.
Clear articulate communicator – exhibiting diplomacy, sound judgement and discretion at all times.
Project management skills, creating clear objectives, strategy, execution and evaluation, and reporting.
Ability to navigate complex and sometimes conflicting needs of different stakeholders with the right judgement and tact, and meeting the needs of the communications strategy.
Knowledge Excellent understanding of Lloyd's strategy and operating model, as well as understanding the marketplace.
Excellent understanding of how communications can strengthen and protect Lloyd's leadership and reputation.
Good grasp of the core elements of the Corporate Affairs function – Communications; Government Policy & Affairs; Sustainability; Research and Strategic Partnerships.
Good grasp of the critical stakeholders to reach and engage to strengthen Lloyd's leadership position.
Good grasp of the breadth of channels and content to reach our multiple audiences.
Experience Experience in devising and delivering impactful and measurable communications campaigns and moments.
Experience in working collaboratively within a team, building relationships, working across different teams and levels, and in managing and coaching junior team members.
Experience in advising internal stakeholders to deliver high quality outputs, and managing their expectations of the delivery from the function.
Experience in understanding the measures that genuinely strengthen and protect reputation, and reporting against them.
Experience in communicating a consistent narrative and messaging with global reach.
