Job summary Job Title: Senior Clinical Fellow in ED Department: Emergency Department Location: Milton Keynes Contract: Fixed term contract Applications are invited to apply for a Senior Clinical Fellow in Emergency Medicine at Milton Keynes University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.
TheSenior Clinical Fellow in conjunction with the ED consultants and Nurses would be expected to manage the wide variety of acute adult and paediatric emergencies presenting to the department.
They would be expected to provide support to junior colleagues.
This is a fixed term post from until Main duties of the job The successful candidate will join the only Emergency Department in the Milton Keynes District which currently serves a population of over 200,000.
This is a busy teaching hospital with affiliations to the University of Oxford, Health Education Thames Valley (HETV) and the University of Buckingham Medical School (opened in January 2015).

Job description Job responsibilities We work closely with acute medical colleagues to work in innovative ways to ensure we deliver the best possible outcomes for our patients and have recently opened a new Same Day Emergency Care service which is nationally recognised.
The successful applicant will be expected to participate in teaching both under and postgraduate students associated with the University of Buckingham and will also be expected to support colleagues doing these activities as part of his or her arranged job plan.
The duties of the Senior Clinical Fellow doctor are those of a doctor functioning at the middle grade level within the department.
Primary duties include the initial diagnosis, resuscitation and overall clinical management of all patients arriving to the A&E Department.
Appropriate follow-up, referral for admission, transfer or discharge to GPs care is an important part of the work along with liaison with colleagues in the community, , GPs, Health Visitors, and District Nurse for the proper continuity of care.
There is an opportunity to get involved with teaching simulation- including a bimonthly teaching for the SHOs and Middle grades including multi-disciplinary teaching with other specialties.
It is expected that you will supervise the junior doctors in the department whilst working on the shop floor, advising and reviewing their patients as necessary.

Medical degree 2 up to date advanced life support courses (ALS or ACLS; ATLS or ETC; APLS, PALS or EPALS) MRCEM Primary examination Desirable MIMMS Knowledge Essential Appropriate level of clinical knowledge in Emergency Medicine Clinical Experience Essential Relevant specialty clinical knowledge: capacity to apply sound clinical knowledge relevant to the job.
Experience in making clinical decisions and managing risk.
Knows when to seek help, able to prioritise clinical need.
Shows aptitude for practical skills, required in the job.
Proven ability to work effectively in different clinical settings required in the job.
Capacity to be alert to dangers or problems.
Demonstrates awareness of good decision making.
Track record of engaging in clinical governance: reporting errors, learning from errors.
evidence of active participation in audit.
Desirable 12 months Emergency Medicine experience Communication Skills Essential Ability to communicate effectively through good verbal and written skills.
Evidence of the ability to communicate with patients, colleagues and staff at all levels.
Teaching Essential Evidence of organising and delivering teaching at under-graduate and post-graduate level Leadership/ Management skills Essential Ability to effectively organise and manage clinical workload.
Ability to motivate and develop training medical staff Desirable Interest in medical management.
Personal Attributes Essential Ability to work in a team and co-operate with all staff.
Enthusiasm & ability to work under pressure Other requirements Essential Ability to work independently as well as part of the Emergency Medicine CSU To balance individual requirements against those of the Directorate and the Trust as a whole.
Demonstration of immunisation against Hepatitis B plus proof of HbsAg negative status Desirable Ability and desire to take part in Clinical Directorate Management Research and Audit Essential Able to appraise research.
Understanding of Evidence Based Medicine Thorough understanding of the principles of audit Desirable Publications in peer reviewed journals in the field of Emergency Medicine Participation in Emergency Medicine based research
