£40.00 - £60.00per hour UMBRELLA - DOE Full Time 3 Month Contract Initially Brighton We are looking for a Senior Building Control Surveyor to ensure that all building work undertaken is designed and built in accordance with adequate performance standards that satisfy the Building Regulations, The Building Act and other allied legislation and ensure the Health and Safety of building users and the general public.
To ensure that Buildings are accessible to all groups and limit the use of non-renewable energy.
Principal Accountabilities To locate, inspect and evaluate dangerous structures and ensure their safe removal including arranging for such works to be carried out when necessary, that adequately minimises the risk to the public and deal with the situation through to a satisfactory conclusion.
To project manage the inspection of works in progress on developments and ensure compliance with the Building Regulations, relevant British Standards and codes of good practice and see through to a satisfactory conclusion.
To examine plans for compliance with Building Control Legislation.
Formulate and execute decisions with regard to approval or rejection of plans and decide appropriate conditions where necessary.
To administer and control the safe demolition of buildings.
To liaise with various sections and departments of the Local Authority, external bodies such as the Fire Brigade and statutory undertakers and members of the public.
To assist in the certification of sporting venues as required under Safety at sports grounds legislation.
To attend Magistrates Court when required, and give evidence on matters relating to all aspects of Building Regulations, demolitions and dangerous structures.
Job Related Education, Qualifications and Knowledge The job requires a extensive experience in the construction industry and college education.
Degree course or four year appropriate level of education ONC/HNC in building studies, ideally working towards culminating in a test of professional competence, professional diary, dissertation and final examinations.
To maintain a level of expertise, and to keep abreast of continually changing products and requirements, following a programme of Continuing Professional Development to retain membership.
Experience In addition on the job experience is necessary during the training period on a wide range of construction projects to provide sufficient practical experience that enables a surveyor to be able to assess a wide range of work, both on plans and on site, for compliance with national guidance.
This ensures that a surveyor is equipped to apply the regulations in a reasonable manner that accords with the basic requirements of the Building Regulations.
