Description The Team We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Associate to join our commercial team here in Birmingham to focus on data privacy and technology.
The team in Birmingham includes two partners, two senior associates, two associates and a Professional Support Lawyer.
There is expertise in both private and public sector work within the team, and the team also works closely with the wider national Commercial team, who are based in London, Manchester and Exeter.
The team has expertise in and a passion for non-contentious data privacy, regularly supporting clients and other teams both nationally and internationally with data privacy advice and drafting.
The team's data work includes advisory work and a variety of both drafting and negotiating stand-alone contracts and inputting into data considerations for other teams, from corporate due diligence support to data sharing within the social housing sector.
Technology contracts are increasingly a key focus of the team, who also regularly draft and negotiate a variety of technology and IT contracts, taking a key part in the firm-wide technology sector, which is led by the partner in the team.
The key sectors for the team currently include technology, private healthcare and fertility and social housing, all of which involve interesting data considerations.
The Role Working as part of a high-performing national team, you will advise clients (a number of which are household names) operating in a variety of sectors on a diverse range of data privacy matters and advising on technology contracts.
The role will include a range of key activities to include providing a first-class service to clients, proactive marketing/profile raising, exceptional client and team/office management.
Examples of work you will be undertaking: Advising on data privacy compliance and working with clients to formulate analysis and legal strategies; Advising on data sharing and processing arrangements both on a stand-alone basis and inputting into wider commercial arrangements; Drafting, negotiating and advising on a wide range of technology agreements, including consultancy agreements, outsourcing arrangements, SaaS licences and contracts for IT products and services; Handling contractual work, including reviewing technology supplier terms and drafting documents such as IT infrastructure services and cloud solutions; Assisting our national corporate teams with data protection due diligence and disclosures; Researching and publishing articles, and giving webinars and seminars on topical issues such as AI; Initiating, building and maintaining effective client relationships and proactively participating in business development activities; Ensuring files are managed in compliance with Lexcel procedures; and Pro-active participation in department and firm-wide marketing initiatives.
What you will need The firm has a Career Development Framework which sets out the competencies we expect of those at these grades.
