Job Advert: SEMH Teacher Vacancy (Secondary) Location: Manchester Position Start Date: Before Christmas 2024 An innovative and supportive alternative provision in Manchester is seeking a passionate and dedicated SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) Teacher to join their team.
This specialist school provides tailored education and care for secondary-aged students who have complex social, emotional, and mental health needs.
The ideal candidate will be committed to making a positive impact on the lives of vulnerable young people and be ready to start before Christmas 2024.
Key Responsibilities: Deliver engaging and differentiated lessons that meet the diverse needs of students with SEMH difficulties.
Provide a nurturing and inclusive learning environment that fosters emotional, social, and academic growth.
Work collaboratively with support staff, therapists, and external agencies to ensure the best outcomes for students.
Develop and implement individualized learning plans (IEPs) and strategies to support student progress.
Manage classroom behaviour effectively, using restorative approaches to address challenges.
Support students in their personal development and help them build resilience and confidence.
Requirements: Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent, with experience teaching at secondary level.
Proven experience working with students with SEMH needs, either in a mainstream or alternative provision.
A deep understanding of the social, emotional, and behavioural challenges faced by students with SEMH.
Strong behaviour management skills with a compassionate and patient approach.
The ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and parents/carers.
Flexibility, creativity, and a willingness to adapt teaching strategies to meet the needs of individual students.
Knowledge of safeguarding practices and the ability to work within safeguarding protocols.
Desirable Qualifications and Skills: Experience in a specialist SEMH school or alternative provision setting.
Training in de-escalation techniques, mental health first aid, or restorative practice.
A commitment to ongoing professional development in the field of SEMH and SEN (Special Educational Needs).
