About the Role: Dunbar Education is excited to work closely with an SEN school that is actively seeking a dedicated SEN Support Officer to support pupils aged 11-16 with social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) difficulties.
This role is pivotal in helping students with SEN needs access education in a supportive, positive environment.
The ideal candidate will be a compassionate, organised, and proactive individual, dedicated to making a meaningful impact on the lives of young people who face complex challenges.
School Profile: The school provides education for students aged 11 to 16 who may have histories of poor attendance, exclusion from mainstream education, and a range of social, emotional, and behavioural needs.
Many students have additional learning difficulties, including ADHD, autism, dyslexia, and social communication challenges.
Key Responsibilities: Policy Development and Coordination: Work closely with the SENCO to contribute to the ongoing development of SEN policy and provision.
Support the day-to-day operation of SEN policy, ensuring it meets the needs of individual pupils with SEN or disabilities.
Safeguarding and Welfare Promotion: Safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people, adhering to school policies and staff code of conduct.
Professional Guidance: Provide professional guidance to colleagues, collaborating with staff, parents, and external agencies to ensure comprehensive support for each pupil.
Learning Programme Delivery: Deliver segments of the learning programme to individual pupils, supporting them in areas identified by the teaching and wellbeing staff.
Break and Lunchtime Supervision: Supervise and engage with pupils during break and lunch times, fostering positive social interactions and promoting self-esteem.
Wellbeing and Learning Assistance: Step into the role of a wellbeing and learning assistant as needed, supporting the emotional and social development of each pupil.
Supportive Environment Creation: Contribute to a purposeful and nurturing environment that encourages pupil engagement, independence, and confidence.
Collaboration and Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records, observe pupil progress, and contribute to individual support plans as directed.
Ensure all information aligns with safeguarding and SEN policies.
Ideal Candidate: Experience with SEN and SEMH: Demonstrated experience working with students facing a range of SEN needs, particularly in areas of social, emotional, and behavioural development.
Strong Communication and Team Skills: Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, parents, and external agencies, fostering a supportive community for each pupil.
Proactive and Empathetic: A patient, resilient professional with the ability to adapt strategies based on individual needs.
Commitment to Safeguarding: A strong understanding of safeguarding practices, with the ability to prioritise the safety and wellbeing of young people.
