SUMMARY Responsible for procurement of materials and supplies needed for the operation of the Company. Leads inventory planning and purchasing activities to ensure materials are available for production to meet customer orders on a timely basis.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Works on-site in Hastings, Michigan (not a remote position). Provides expertise on purchasing and supply chain management; maintains knowledge of trends, prices, availability, projected performance, and delivery conditions to anticipate future material availability; keeps the President fully advised and manages purchasing accordingly. Collaborates with senior management and other departments to maximize efficiency of purchasing and inventory control. Develops procedures that ensure purchase orders and contracts comply with company policies, as well as applicable state and federal laws, rules, and regulations. Recommends necessary controls to keep expenditures within established limits. Ensures ERP system database is accurately maintained for supplies and materials used. Keeps other departments apprised of order status, variances, anticipated shortages, and purchasing opportunities. Identifies new suppliers, and educates and evaluates existing suppliers. Maintains strong working relationships with suppliers while holding them accountable for quality, quantity, and delivery of materials; conducts virtual and in-person visits to evaluate suppliers, determine ability to meet our specifications, etc. Ensures thorough understanding of supplier terms and conditions; negotiates in company's best interests. Negotiates major purchase agreements or arrangements that are of substantial value and/or long duration, or as deemed necessary by the company President. Prepares periodic reports or other data and presents to company President, indicating record of achievement on established goals, recommended improvements, personnel requirements, and other related matters. Reviews and approves invoices; investigates discrepancies prior to acceptance and submittal for payment. Supervises department personnel; provides support and training where indicated. Exercises sound, informed judgment in all matters; manages department with professionalism, maturity, flexibility, and a service mindset, understanding that the production floor is the department's "customer." Complies with and adheres to all applicable ISO standards, safety and work rules and requirements, company policies, and governmental laws and regulations pertaining to procurement. Performs other duties as assigned. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Work frequently at computer in office setting. Work for periods of time in factory setting (non-air conditioned); walking and standing. Occasional travel required. REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE and QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor's degree in business, supply chain management, or related field. At least five (5) years of buying, purchasing, or materials management experience required, with supervisory experience. Experience in manufacturing environment strongly preferred. Proven negotiation skills. Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills. Proven ability to work well with all levels of management and staff. Excellent time management, organizational skills, and attention to detail. Proven verbal and written communication skills. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Strong supervisory and leadership skills with the ability to effectively train others. Proficient with Microsoft Office suite and ERP software (SyteLine experience preferred).
