Job summary Hicks Group Practice is offering an exciting opportunity for a Prescription Clerk to join our friendly and supportive team.
They will work over both sites, Charles Hicks Centre, Huntingdon and Roman Gate Surgery, Godmanchester serving a patient population of 17,100 and growing due to new developments in the local area.We are looking to replace a retiring colleague and have a Prescription Clerk post available.
We are looking for a part time post 34 hours.
You will be working set hours Mon, Weds & Fri 1pm to 6pm, and Tues/Thurs 8am to 6pm, however flexibility will be required.
The starting rate is £ rising to £ following full assimilation of the role, with a 6 month probationary period.Experience of working in general practice/NHS and on SystmOne is preferred.
The post holder will have responsibility for providing prescription support to the doctors and other members of the clinical team.
A knowledge of medical terminology/medications, would be preferred, however training will be provided.We are looking to recruit a flexible, enthusiastic and motivated person with good communication skills to join our established team.
The ability to work under pressure and prioritise workload is essential.
Main duties of the job The Prescription Clerk providessupport to our GPs and ANPs in the receipt and preparation of repeatprescriptions for our 17,100 patients.You will be the main point of contact for Patient enquiries about theirprescriptions, so resilience is important.
You will be liaising on sensitive medicalinformation, so a caring customer service communication style isessential.

About us The Practice has been in existence, in various forms and in various buildings, since 1821.
The Charles Hicks Centre was built in 1987 and extended in 1992.
The Roman Gate Surgery replaced premises in Old Court Hall and was occupied in February 1994, extended in 2020.The practice has 6 partners, 4 salary GPs, Advanced Nurse Practitioners, Practice Nurses and Healthcare Assistants.
We are a training practice with Registrars, FY2 doctors, Medical Students from Cambridge University and student nurses.
This large clinical team is supported by both the administrative team and reception team, all working closely together to provide the best care to our patient population.
Job description Job responsibilities Key Tasks & Responsibilities Duties will include co-ordinating andpreparing repeat prescriptions for our Patients, data entry onto Patientrecords and Patient and Pharmacy liaison.The tasks and responsibilities to be undertaken may include any or allof the items in the following lists, dependent on current and evolving practiceworkload and staffing levels: Work with our GPs to provide a responsive repeatprescription service delegated to the Prescription team as appropriate.
Delivering the technical aspects of prescriptionpreparation to ensure the safe prescribing of medicines.
Delivering an efficient prescription service andensuring service targets are met and errors are minimised.
Comply with legal and professional requirements,accepted guidance on professional practice, and with safe systems of work forre-authorising repeat prescriptions.
Run analysis reports and gather information froma variety of sources for continuous improvement, safe management of repeatprescriptions, and to co-ordinate medication reviews or changes.
Liaise with pharmacies on the supply ofprescribed drugs, alert our clinicians of any supply issues and forwardinformation on the recommended alternatives.
Expedite urgent prescriptions to help ensurea safe and responsive service for our Patients.
Respond to enquiries from Patients, carers,secretaries, NHS administrators, Consultants or the Medicines Management Teamin a courteous, timely and efficient manner, by telephone, letter and email,occasionally face-to-face and maintain precise records of the communications.
Provide an efficient administration service aspart of a Team to ensure the smooth running of the prescription support to ourclinicians.
Post, email or text message via Accurx, writtencorrespondence as appropriate to deliver the requested correspondence in atimely manner, and ensure this is recorded in the Patient record.
Ensure you are keeping Patient informationupdated and that Patient information is secure /kept confidential at all times.
Maintain accurate Patient records promptly andquickly - entering data in accordance with reporting requirements.
Keep up to date with the Practices formularyand the National restricted drugs list.
Bring any queries to the attention of therelevant doctor, to include under and over usage.
Issue nursing supplies dressings,catheters if advised by a suitably trained nurse/ supplier.
On the doctors instructions, inactivate drugsthat have never been issued or have not been issued for a specified period oftime.
Liaise with external Pharmacy services andpatients as necessary to resolve queries.
Build good working relationships with localPharmacies to help enable our prescription service.
Check emails regularly and deal with themappropriately.
Create tasks and assist Clinicians in managingdocument workflow relating to prescriptions.
Establish and maintain filing and administrativesystems so that written or computerised information is easily accessible andsecure.
Ensure regular audits of prescription supplies(FP10s) and record findings, reporting and anomalies to the Prescribing lead.Escalate any problems to your line manager orpractice manager that you need support with.
Provide cover for members of the Prescriptionteam during periods of sickness and annual leave.
Undertake training as requested to support safeand effective services for the Practice.
Carry out any other duties as may reasonably berequested by the GPs/practice manager/line manager.
