Job summary We are looking for applications from candidates who are post-CCT or of a similar grade, with an interest in hepatobiliary and pancreatic (HPB) surgery.
This post will provide comprehensive senior support to the HPB surgical service.
Main duties of the job This is a full time Senior Training Fellow post which will support the HPB team in providing a comprehensive surgical service to the University Hospital of North Midlands Hospital NHS Trust which caters to the population of Staffordshire, Shropshire, Mid Wales, South Cheshire and part of Wolverhampton.
There is an on-call component to this post however it is not a full on-call slot.
The list of duties and responsibilities given above is not an exhaustive list and you may be asked to undertake other duties in line with the overall purpose and nature of the post as may be required from time to time.

The post holder will be working with a team of Consultants, Specialty Doctors, Trust Doctors, Specialty Trainees, Core Trainees and Foundation Trainees.
Each post has a generic clinical component in the relevant area.
In addition, the post holder will have an agreed experience in a sub-speciality (depending on availability) including outpatient clinics, ward cover, specialist in-patient reviews and procedures, audit and research.
It is prudent to be a team player with excellent inter-personal skills.

Job description Job responsibilities UHNM serves a local population of over million people and provides care for patients from Staffordshire, Shropshire, Mid Wales, South Cheshire and Wolverhampton.
This busy unit employs 14 UGI consultants (4 HPB, 4 OG, 5 Bariatric, 1 Benign UGI) and provides cancer services, complex benign biliary and hiatal services, bariatric services and endoscopy to a large population.
We have secured dedicated emergency theatre access 7 days a week for our patients with emergency biliary presentations and last year performed 464 emergency laparoscopic cholecystectomies.
UHNM has a busy General Surgery Unit and as a Major Trauma Centre, it serves a population of nearly three million people and stretching from Anglesey to the Peak District.
The post holder will have designated supervised theatre sessions and will be involved with the management of elective and emergency HPB patients.
The HPB team perform 60-70 pancreaticobiliary resections per year.
The post-holder will have access to several theatre lists each week with exposure to elective open and laparoscopic cancer resections, complex benign elective surgery and emergency biliary surgery.
They will be expected to oversee the management of ward patients and be involved with clinics and the MDT.
The HPB team have recently commenced their Robotic HPB program however previous robotic experience is not essential.
The post-holder will be trained in pylorus-preserving pancreaticoduodenectomy, laparoscopic distal pancreatectomy, total pancreatectomy, elective and emergency cholecystectomy with bile duct exploration, laparoscopic jejunal resection and other complex pancreaticobiliary procedures.
UHNM is a recognised centre for tertiary HPB referrals and specialist management of bile duct injury.
In addition, UHNM has a renowned EUS and ERCP service and JAG accredited surgeons could seek to gain training in these more complex endoscopic procedures.
Post-holders will be encouraged to engage in audit, research and teaching opportunities.
Candidates with robotic UGI Surgery experience are welcomed and encouraged to apply however those with no robotic experience would be given access to robotic simulation and encouraged to develop their skills.
Person Specification Qualifications Essential Full GMC Registration MBBS or equivalent MRCS Part two Desirable Awards/distinctions whilst studying for 1st degree FRCS CCT in general surgery Experience Essential Working at a registrar level in a substantive post in general and HPB resectional surgery within the UK or equivalent experience Desirable Training at SPR level or equivalent experience in Upper GI and HPB Surgery
