Job summary CSH Surrey have a rare opportunity to manage theaward-winning specialist Community Phlebotomy Service in North West Surrey.
The team of 11 phlebotomists provide a purely domiciliary phlebotomy service to approximately 1,000 housebound adults each month.
The service requires a full-time, dynamic individual to lead the well-established community phlebotomy team.
The post holder will be responsible for planning the work of the team and they will provide supervision and advice to ensure that the team provide a high quality phlebotomy serviceto the population of North West Surrey.
Thesuccessful candidate will have extensive phlebotomy experience, with the highest standards of patient care and blood sample collection,and will be required to lead by example.Excellent communication, organizational and administrativeskills are a must.
Some of this role can be undertaken from home, however, it is essential that the post holder is a car driver / independently able to travel between places of work to be present and provide support to the team.INTERVIEWS ARE SCHEDULED FOR 18/12/2024 13:30 - 17:00 (Dukes Court, Woking, GU21 5BH)Note: Not offering UKVI sponsorship Main duties of the job The post holder will be directly responsible for theday-to-day planning of work of a team of the 11 phlebotomists.
This involves triaging referrals and allocating visits to the team members based on urgency and location.
The post holder will also be required to liaise with referrers and be able to respond to urgent requests.
The post holder will also be expected to undertake visits themselves as and when required.The post holder will be required to support the team members by managing their annual leave, sickness, training requirements, competency checks and annual appraisals.
They will also be required to lead the recruitment and induction processes for the team when required.

Job description Job responsibilities Clinical and Technical:Collects, using venepuncture procedures, blood samples from adult patients 18 years and over in a variety of settings, selecting the appropriate equipment for the procedure.
Provides a phlebotomy service at designated other settings.
Monitors and maintains the health, safety and security of self and patients during the venepuncture procedure.
Practices within risk management / occupational health legislation and CSH procedures, and is aware of potential hazards.
Collects samples from patients in high risk categories and is aware of potential hazards.
Is able to follow agreed protocols to minimise risk to self and others.
Is aware of the clinical conditions and precautions that are necessary for sample quality to be maintained during the venepuncture procedure, and makes the decision of appropriate site selection, correct use of tourniquet and selection of blood sample bottles.
Is proficient in performing Point of Care capillary sample testing and proceed according to standard operating procedure.
Ensures that blood sample bottles are accurately labelled in accordance with departmental policies and procedures.
Ensures that clinical samples are correctly packaged for transportation to the laboratory in accordance with the policies and procedures of the Pathology Department.
Is proficient in the use, maintenance and quality control procedures of the departmental equipment.
Works to ensure that service performance targets are met by continually assessing priority of own work; taking into account individual needs of the patient.
Is fully conversant with and works to relevant departmental policies and Standard Operating Procedures, ensuring that personal performance complies with ISO standards (International standards organisation).
Performs telephone duties that include conveying sensitive information to other healthcare professionals, patients and their representatives.
Performs additional patient monitoring (for example but not limited to blood pressure, weight etc) in line with competancies.
Provides support to junior members of staff, and encourage best practice.
With appropriate training undertake cannulation of patients identified by registered professionals according to the clinical protocol.Role ResponsibilitiesCommunicate on a regular basis with the phlebotomy staff regarding operational procedures and receive information with regards to changes in tests and method of obtaining samples and ensure staff receive appropriate training in a timely manner.
Disseminate information from Senior Leadership Team through to the Phlebotomy Team.
To hold and chair regular staff meetings.
To communicate on a regular basis with staff regarding the departments objectives, plan and business development, training and development and produce minutes accordingly.
Anticipate and report issues affecting service delivery to the Senior Manager including training issues, staff performance, and propose establishment and protocol changes.
Communicate with Senior Manager regarding phlebotomy requirements, training and delivery.
Maintain a professional and effective relationship with both internal and external users of the Phlebotomy Service.
To liaise with all partners, undertake risk assessments and communicate any issues with the relevant manager.
Respond to telephone callers and / or visitors (patients, consultants, GPs etc.)
promptly and courteously, identifying their needs, providing information or referring them as appropriate to the relevant person or discipline.
To communicate both orally and in writing with phlebotomy staff and training department to ensure efficient and effective training.
To follow established procedures and demonstrate appropriate behavior and negotiating skills in dealing with awkward or aggressive staff, visitors and / or callers.
Participates in the a personal development programme and works towards identified development needs.
To include attendance on mandatory training courses and subsequent updates in line with CSH policy.

Document and ensure training portfolios and competencies for staff are regularly updated and completed.
To discuss expected outcomes of training and manage progress of phlebotomy training programmes to complete portfolio, induction and development activity.
Prior to attending training events, and after attending training to assist staff to transfer, develop and use new skills acquired.
To manage records of poor performance, create action plans and monitor achievement and bring issues to the attention of the Senior Manager.
To supervise staff on a daily basis ensuring the effective organisation and provision of phlebotomy services.
To ensure that the set standards within the department are known and adhered to.
To ensure that staff are aware of externally set standards and timescales, that they are adhered to, and corrective action is taken if necessary to meet such standards To ensure that up to date personnel records are maintained for all staff in line with CSH Surrey policies and procedures annual leave, sick leave.
To approve annual leave within the department ensuring that organisational procedures are adhered to and appropriate cover is maintained to meet workload demands To check competency, set objectives for staff and to appraise staff at least once annually.
To regularly monitor staff performance, immediately bringing to the attention of the Service Manager any areas of concern.
Set performance improvement plans and reviews, and inform Service Manager.
Completion of Health Roster and EPay systems required for wages and travel claims.
Completion of all electronic reporting systems staff sickness returns and conduct return to work interviews.
Manage appropriate targets for attendance in line with the CSH Surrey policy.
To coordinate the induction of new staff, students, bank and agency staff.
To contribute to own personal and performance review and to undertake identified training needs and development.
To assist with ensuring that a learning environment is created and maintained for pre-registration students, qualified nurses and healthcare assistants.

Person Specification Qualifications Essential Degree or diploma plus equivalent learning / short courses at this level GCSE / O level in Maths and written and spoken English or equivalent.
Certificate in venipuncture.
Desirable A Teaching / Assessing Qualification, or willing to undertake ( Experience as a supervisor in an NHS environment Experience of mentoring Experience Essential At least 2 years experience as a phlebotomist, or similar position in a health care environment (meeting the phlebotomist current job description and person specification).
