Occupational Therapy Team Leader - Orthopaedics/Surgery

Job summary An exciting opportunity has arisen for an OT with experience and an interest in orthopaedics and surgery to join the team at Wexham Park Hospital (WPH) as a band 7 Occupational Therapy Team Leader providing team leadership and helping to improve clinical expertise and pathways across site for Orthopaedic and surgical patients, including spinal patients.
This post would be suitable for current Band 7s or experienced Band 6s interested in progressing their career within orthopaedics/surgery or those experienced OTs who might be considering a return to practice.
You will play a major and specialist role to plan and provide advanced assessment, advice, evaluating treatment and clinical management for a defined caseload , for patients who have complex, acute and chronic presentations.
Within the role you will also be part of the wider inpatient therapy team working closely with Occupational Therapists and Clinical Leads across our other units and the MDT.
Your role will be to contribute to the smooth running and overall service development of the team and actively participate in Continuing Professional Development, and service improvement, providing leadership through supervision, mentoring, education, and training.

Main duties of the job To provide expert clinical support and advise, alongside the Surgical OT Clinical Specialist, to the Orthopaedic/surgical OT team, linking closely with Physio and other professions.
To hold a clinical caseload, providing excellent, high-quality person-centred clinical management, including patients who have complex acute and chronic presentations, determining the functional deficits and OT treatment within the busy orthopaedic ward settings, covering surgical patients when required and supporting on other teams when appropriate.
To strive to provide a service fit for today and the future, considering and inputting into the latest evidence-based practice, developing personal leadership to support clinical and service growth and staff development.
You will have a key role in the development of a competent, knowledgeable workforce, equipping them to provide high-quality person-centred care.

Person Specification Qualifications Essential Diploma / degree in OT recognised by Royal College of OT Registered OT Evidence of post graduate training in the relevant clinical field Desirable Evidence of Relevant postgraduate courses Study for a MSc Skills Essential Familiar with RCOT documentation guidelines (SOAP) Ability to work in and manage a team Desirable Evidence of Clinical Audit and EBP Critical Appraisal skills Presentation skills Teaching/lecturing skills First line Management skills Conflict resolution, Recruitment & retention Experience Essential Experienced Supervisor - staff and students Working knowledge specialty anatomy and physiology Expert Assessment, treatment planning and goal setting in the acute hospital setting Working within Ortho/surgery in an acute hospital NHS setting Support junior staff in managing their caseload Desirable Previous experience as a band 7 occupational therapist or equivalent.
