With a base at Worcestershire Acute Hospital, thesuccessful candidate will undertake endoscopy lists at KidderminsterHospital, Alexandra Hospital Redditch and Malvern Community Hospital.
Main duties of the job The nurse endoscopist will work independently as an expert practitioner performing endoscopic procedures (gastroscopy, flexible sigmoidoscopy/ Colonoscopy) with or without sedation on a selected patient group.This new post currently will cover 1 set list for Bowel Cancer Screening Programme and 1 set list for symptomatic per week.
The remaining timetable to be worked flexibly to ensure maximum use of funded lists.As you will be required to work across different sites a full driving license and access to a car is essential.Please note interview date is Monday 16th December.

The role involves VDU work and individuals may be / are exposed to violence and aggression.Job Purpose: To carry out endoscopy procedures for both symptomatic and Bowel Cancer Screening Programme, using informed consent and with due regard to patient safety and safe use of equipment.
Identify abnormalities, assessing, initiating and reviewing treatment in accordance with agreed policies and individuals scope of practice.Key Duties: To undertake unsupervised endoscopic procedures such as colonoscopy, flexible sigmoidoscopy and gastroscopy with associated appropriate therapeutic procedures.
To provide conscious sedation as appropriate using informed consent according to recognised training programmes and where appropriate administer reversal agents according to protocol.
To act as independent prescriber for Endoscopy.
To assist in the delivery and development of the specialist service through the use of effective evidence based practice in line with agreed national standards for patient safety and monitoring To use knowledge and developed skills ensure that patients and carers receive appropriate health education pre and post procedure To offer psychological support to patients with cancer and their families at diagnosis and in conjunction with other healthcare professionals, as appropriate.
Participate in data inputting and produce endoscopy reports on individual patients, after each procedure, providing the diagnosis, suggested treatment, medical follow-up and referral, as necessary to medical specialists, as required for the treatment of each patient.
To promote a patient focused approach to care in collaboration with all relevant health professionals.

To work with the Directorate Management Team and Unit Managers in establishing and monitoring protocols / policies/care pathways.

Ensure minimal procedure numbers required for JAG accreditation are performed, ensure JAG and GRS key performance indicators are in line with recommended minimum standards.
Ensure accreditation achieved and maintained for Bowel Cancer Screening KPIs.
To help maintain a suitable learning environment for staff and act as a facilitator in the supervision and teaching of less experienced staff.
To attend Trust / local orientation programmes and mandatory training sessions.
To be responsible for developing and sustaining own knowledge, clinical skills and professional awareness in accordance with PREP / Revalidation requirements and to maintain a professional portfolio with evidence of reflective practice.
To contribute to annual appraisal and be responsible for own Personal Development Programme Attend courses and conferences to keep up to date with recent research and practice changes.
To provide training and development of the junior staff, student nurses and health care assistants to ensure a high level of nursing care is provided to patients.
To maintain a professional attitude at all times, developing the role of the Nurse Endoscopist in the best interest of the patient /profession in accordance with the MNC Code of Conduct and Scope of Professional Practice.
Acts as an ambassador/role model for the organisation and the nursing profession Maintains their NMC registration, ensuring that own work and the work of other staff always adhere to the NMC code of conduct Act as a role model and clinical expert, demonstrating high standards of care and clinical leadership within the speciality.
To promote and deliver Health Education within the clinical area and advise patients, relatives and others in Health Promotion issues where necessary Ensure that high standards of care are maintained within the department and where necessary address issues with the Unit Manager/BCSP Programme Manager.
Maintain a clinical portfolio and log in accordance with standards and guidelines of the Joint Advisory Group on Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (subgroup of the Committees on Higher Medical Education of the Royal College of Surgeons & Other medical Royal Colleges).
To monitor the safe and effective use of all equipment and the economic use of supplies.
To inform and discuss any nursing issues with Matron/BCSP Programme Manager/Directorate Manager.
