Job Summary NUH is looking to appoint an enthusiastic and highly motivated skull base fellow to support our neurosurgical department.
This placement is for 12 months initially but may be extended.
This is an exciting opportunity to gain excellent experience in neurosurgery.
The appointed Skull Base Fellow will work with 4 skull base surgeons in the department and will achieve good experience in anterior as well as lateral skull base extended endoscopic procedures and pituitary pathologies.
This post will be an excellent opportunity for post CCT/recently qualified neurosurgeons to gather and improve skill sets required before starting a career as a skull base surgeon.
Main Duties of the JobThe post holder will be part of a team that includes run-through trainees as well as other trust grade doctors.
You will work closely with consultants, other junior doctors, and multi-disciplinary teams.
The post holder will be part of a senior tier on-call rota at QMC covering junior trainees.
There are ample opportunities for work-based assessments from the supervising consultants.
You will also be allocated a Clinical Supervisor who will help identify career progression opportunities.
The post holder will contribute/supervise to the on-call rota and should therefore have previous neurosurgery registrar experience (or equivalent), have full MRCS, and have experience working within the NHS.
Job ResponsibilitiesProvide inpatient and outpatient services (theatres and clinics) under consultant supervision.Contribute to the emergency out of hours rota - senior 2nd tier cover.Supervise daily ward rounds.Conduct patient management in line with plans agreed with the Consultants.Support and teach junior colleagues effectively.Participate in M&M and MDT meetings.Contribute to Quality & Improvement Projects within the department.Attend departmental meetings.Person SpecificationTraining and QualificationsEssential MBBS or equivalent.Full GMC Registration with a license to practice in the UK.Full MRCS or equivalent.ATLS or equivalent.Desirable Postgraduate Qualifications FRCS Neurosurgery.ExperienceEssential Good and wide-ranging recent experience of Neurosurgery in an acute inpatient setting in a large acute hospital.Evidence of completion of key competencies equivalent to senior registrar level (logbook).
