Overview The Lead Engineer / Technologist leads the development, introduction and delivery of Signalling processes and tools and into the UK market.
This portfolio currently includes SMARTBENCH, SMARTCERT, Data Validation Tool, SML Support System and Test Environment, SML auto testing and Enhanced Technical Assurance Process.
The role involves the capturing of requirements, process and tool development and/or adaptation for the UK market, process and tool introduction (including supporting the product acceptance process where applicable), configuration and testing as part of project delivery.
Lead the delivery of configuration for signalling systems in the UK and Ireland including MCS, VHLC / ElectroLogIXS, SMARTLOCK data (scheme and VIXL data), SMARTLOCK systems (support system and test environment) and automated production and testing services.
Lead the development and / or improvement of tools and processes within the business including requirements capture, planning, specifications, design, implementation, testing and roll out.
Assist in ensuring that tools and processes remain fit for purpose and enable continuous improvement of them by leading regular reviews and proactively suggesting and implementing improvements.
Main Responsibilities Lead the delivery of Signalling systems configuration.
Lead the delivery / improvement of Signalling tools and processes Ensure activities are delivered on time and to budget Managerial responsibility for small teams including appraisals Mentorship of other staff within the Alstom signalling business Driving improvements in processes and tools within the Alstom signalling business Undertake day to day management, annual appraisals and proactive development of allocated staff Ensure IRSE logbook and Authority to Work is maintained and regularly reviewed To understand the regulations that apply to signalling engineering and the railway in general e.g.
temporary works, CSM, CDM, electricity at work etc.
Ensure work is performed in a safe and effective manner and in accordance with the Health & Safety at Work Act (1974), Electricity at Work Regulations (1989), Railway Group Standards, and relevant Alstom Procedures.
Educational Requirements Mandatory: Degree level in an engineering or numerate subject IRSE Designers Licence (1.1.510) Experience Mandatory: • Ability to carry out configuration works on at least one of the following systems- o MCS o VHLC / ElectroLogIXS o SMARTLOCK (scheme and VIXL data) o SMARTLOCK (support system and test environment) o Automated production and testing services AND/OR • Ability to write software in one of the following languages o VB.NET o C#.NET o C++ o Tcl • Significant knowledge of signalling design process • Significant knowledge of signalling systems (MCS, VHLC \ ElectroLogIXS, SMARTLOCK) • Significant knowledge of software development process Desirable: Working knowledge of Signalling principles Work package management Competencies & Skills Essential Ability to manage / mentor individuals Good verbal and written communication skills Good presentation skills Ability to prepare outline business cases Ability to introduce new tools and processes Desirable: • Able to drive or willing to learn • Effectively communicating with external customers and clients • PTS Things you'll enjoy.
