VACANCY FOR HGV MECHANIC & APPRENTICE MECHANIC Overview We are seeking a skilled HGV Mechanic to join our small, friendly team at our busy workshop, located between Kelly Bray and Launceston.
The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of mechanical systems and demonstrate the ability to diagnose and repair a variety of vehicles and machinery, although our work is predominantly HGVs and trailers.
This ability is essential in ensuring the safety and efficiency of our operations, contributing to the overall success of our business.
Hours are flexible, and we are able to offer both employed and self-employed contracts, dependant on circumstances of the applicant.
We are flexible in terms of hours worked, ranging from 1 to 6 days per week (10 to 60hours), with overtime always available.
Some call outs may be necessary, where a fully equipped company vehicle will be supplied.
We are also looking for a trainee/apprentice mechanic, to join the team.
Salary dependant on hours worked, but ranges between £10,000 to £60,000, with the likelihood of an equipped service van for the right candidate, plus other benefits.
Responsibilities Conduct thorough inspections of vehicles and machinery to identify issues and determine necessary repairs.
Perform routine maintenance tasks, including oil changes, brake repairs, and tyre rotations.
Diagnose mechanical problems using diagnostic equipment and tools.
Repair or replace defective parts using hand tools, power tools, and specialised equipment.
Maintain accurate records of repairs and services performed.
Collaborate with other mechanics and staff to ensure timely completion of work orders.
Adhere to safety protocols and maintain a clean working environment.
Requirements Proven experience as a Mechanic or in a similar role.
Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, including engines, transmissions, and electrical systems.
Proficient in using diagnostic tools and equipment.
Excellent problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
Relevant qualifications or certifications in automotive technology or mechanics are advantageous (IRTEC or similar preferred).
A valid HGV driving licence is preferred but not essential, but full UK licence necessary.
