Job overview We are keen to recruit an enthusiastic, flexible and self-motivated person to join our friendly team of staff.
As a Laboratory Support Worker, you will play a key role in helping to deliver and develop our comprehensive, clinical immunology service.MAIN PURPOSE OF THE POST The post-holder will assist in the provision of an efficient and smooth running service within the Department by following the departmental SOP (Standard Operating Procedures) and protocols throughout all sections of the department.
The post-holder will be mainly involved in the reception and sorting of specimens, routine processing of specimens and associated tasks, input of patient information onto the laboratory computer, disposal of infected material and preparation of reagents.A flexible approach to the hours of employment is required, according to the individual contract.Band Laboratory Support Workers will have had previous experience of working in an NHS diagnostic laboratory.
Main duties of the job You will support Healthcare Scientific staff by maintaining analytical equipment, producing chemical reagents and preparing biological specimens for analysis.
You will help to meet quality standards necessary for accreditation, and ensure that protocols are followed in a way that maintains Health, Safety and Information Security for individuals, the Department and the Trust.You will have a positive, professional approach to patient care and be keen to work as part of a busy, highly skilled team.
Previous experience within a diagnostic laboratory is essential for this post.You will be expected to actively participate in the training and development of technical, medical and support staff, as well as to be pro-active in your own continued development.
