We want you to join our team in our chemotherapy unit at the Alexandra Hospital.
You will have the opportunity to be part of this service and ourinnovative ways of working as we grasp this opportunity to influence, shape anddevelop the changing face of cancer care and service provision in our Trust.The 12 chaired dayunit cares for patients with a range of cancers who are receiving chemotherapyand other types of treatments.
We aim to provide an individualised andsupportive environment for patients in which to deliver this specialised highstandard care.
The unit opening hours are Monday to Friday 8am to 8pm and Saturdays 9am to 5pm.The ability to communicate effectively with the patients and all members of the team is essential.
You will be supported in this post by the unit manager and team, Matron for oncology/Haematology and the Lead Chemotherapy Nurse.For further information , please contact the Garden Suite team directly on 01527 512092 Main duties of the job Preparingthe chemotherapy unit for the shift ahead (stocking up on the treatmenttrollies, treatment room and preparing the scalp cooling machines and teatrolley) and procurement of non-stock clinical items.Receptionwork with welcoming patients onto the unit and booking them onto the electronicsystem.Carry outheight, weight and observations and highlighting any issues to nursing staffand making them comfortable in the treatment bays.Ensuringthat the patients have refreshments throughout the day.Assistingthe nursing team with any clinical procedures that are required.Phlebotomy and cannulation.Answeringthe telephone, helping patients with their queries and taking messages asappropriate.

Job description Job responsibilities Ensurethe Chemotherapy unit is adequately prepared at the start of the day andre-stocked as necessary, including cleaning recliner chairs and trolleys etc.
Towelcome patients onto the unit and undertake observations this includestemperature, pulse, respirations, blood pressure, oxygen saturation levels,weight, body mass index, urinalysis and blood sugars.
Any variations must be reported immediatelyto trained staff to maintain patient safety.
Toassist in the maintenance of a safe and clean clinical environment to reducethe risk of infection.
Toensure all patient records whether electronic or written are updated asrequired.
Toanswer telephone calls bleeps, etc.
and to take messages informing appropriatepersons of the call or bleep received.
Toassist with the ordering and monitoring of stock items to ensure efficient useof department resources.
Tochaperone patients during physical examinations and procedures.
Toundertake clinical procedures as defined by Trust protocol and procedures(phlebotomy, PICC line care) Toassess patients wellbeing and seek support if required from other healthcareprofessionals.
Toreport immediately to the nurse in charge any observed change in a patientscondition or any concern expressed by a patient about nursing or medicaltreatment to maintain patient safety and improve communication.
Torespond appropriately to clinical emergencies to ensure the patient receivesappropriate care.
Toensure patients are kept fully informed of their situation.
Torespond to patient requests for non-clinical information to improvecommunication.
To carry out reception, clerical and housekeepingduties as required improving department efficiency.
