Job summary As a professional advisor working across the organisation with some freedom to act and interpretation of legislation/policy/procedures, the post holder(s) will play a role in supporting the Health & Safety Managers & the Head of Health & Safety, ensuring that Health & Safety effectively contributes to the corporate objectives and strategic direction of the Health Board, working within the framework of good corporate governance.
The post holder will have expert/specialist knowledge in the area of Health & Safety.

Main duties of the job As a professional advisor working across the organisation with some freedom to act and interpretation of legislation/policy/procedures, the post holder will play a role in supporting the Health & Safety Managers & the Head of Health & Safety, ensuring that Health & Safety effectively contributes to the corporate objectives and strategic direction of the Health Board, working within the framework of good corporate governance.
The post holder will have expert/specialist knowledge in the area of Health & Safety.
The post holder will assist the Health & Safety Manager to ensure the organisation's defined arrangements for the management of health & safety are being carried out and they will assist in managing the Health Board's statutory and best practice provision that includes; co-ordinating, developing, planning, communicating, training and monitoring in all relevant aspects of health & safety.
The post holder will assist with the work in the development and implementation of a long term, standard & consistent approach to Corporate Safety Planning and will assist with the co-ordination and development of safety related policies, protocols, procedures and guidelines.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Person Specification Qualifications Essential Educated to degree level or equivalent level of experience working in a similar specialist area NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent/ Post Grad higher level of Health and Safety qualification Desirable Evidence of commitment to on-going continual professional development Relevant Membership level of IOSH eg TechIOSH Level 3 training qualification Experience Essential Experience of working in an occupational health & safety role.
Experience of carrying out comprehensive risk assessments That lead to effective management of risk.
Experience of carrying out safety audits and inspections.
Experience of using and managing information to determine priorities and demonstrate service levels Desirable Experience of working in a Clinical Risk Assurance Environment within the NHS.
Experience in investigation techniques Experience of internal and external partnership working Experience of preparing & delivering safety training courses Skills Essential Excellent communication skills both verbal and written, including formal presentation skills and accurate report writing Ability to prioritise work and manage competing demands on time, ensuring deadlines set are met Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel and Powerpoint Desirable Ability to analyse information, prepare reports and utilise information to inform decision making Project Management skills Planning and organisational skills across a broad range of activities and difficult situations Knowledge Essential A broad knowledge of safety legislation & its application in an NHS setting.
An appreciation of current safety issues & safety management techniques.
Desirable Knowledge of the patient & staff safety and quality agenda and policy direction for the NHS Personal Qualities Essential Ability to work as part of a team and take direction from senior managers.
Ability to learn from experience and adapt to changes and new challenges Desirable Effective interpersonal, influencing and negotiating skills Other Essential Ability to travel between sites
