In this context, we are seeking individuals with commercial, mineral marketing, strategy, or management consulting experience and an entrepreneurial spirit to help grow our consulting practice.
As a Director on the EMEA M&M Consulting team, you will be a senior member of the team and support the Head of EMEA M&M Consulting in the growth of the practice.
You will play a key role in our consulting practice, with involvement in all aspects of the consulting process, from developing client relationships, shaping and pitching the opportunity, managing projects, and working closely with clients and Wood Mackenzie experts to develop insights to support critical strategic and commercial decisions.
Your primary role will be developing and managing commercial and strategy consultancy projects across the M&M sector in EMEA markets.
This includes a growing number of energy transition-themed engagements.
In the last two years the M&M EMEA practice has supported 50+ transactions totaling more than $20B in total value, analyzed the commercial value of mining, processing, refining and smelting, manufacturing, infrastructure, and other capital projects, and helped shape business strategies for leading M&M operators across the value chain, financial investors, energy companies, infrastructure operators, and governments (and others).
The role requires strong business winning capabilities, proven skills, and competencies to provide project direction on consulting mandates, leadership to team members and direct reports, management of initiatives delegated by the Head of Practice, as well as support to the development of growing energy transition consulting work within the region.
You will engage frequently with senior client teams and also work closely with the global M&M Practice, Wood Mackenzie's Research organization, as well as other parts for the company.
The principal focus of the role is on the EMEA markets, however, the job holder may be involved in a range of global or cross-regional consulting projects, including the Americas, the Middle East, Africa or the Asia-Pacific regions.
Occasional domestic and international travel might be required.
Main Responsibilities As a Director at Wood Mackenzie you will lead and support our business development efforts and our consulting assignments.
Your main responsibilities will be: Client and Business Development Build and nurture networks and relationships, both external as well as internal, that lead to a deep understanding of clients' needs and bring consulting opportunities to Wood Mackenzie.
Lead and support the development, review and presentation of consulting proposals that create strategic insight and value for our clients as well as Wood Mackenzie.
Develop relationships with clients to foster repeat business.
Lead and collaborate with BD teams to scope opportunities and to estimate fees for quotation.
Discuss consulting needs with clients, prepare and present proposals to clients.
Participate in industry events to network with potential clients, where appropriate.
Drive business winning, revenues and profitability of consulting projects.
Project Delivery Manage client relationship and scope and expectations during engagements and ensure commitments to the client can be met.
Lead client projects, working with clients and our Wood Mackenzie team to ensure high quality, insightful results that support our clients' strategic decisions and value creation.
Guide and support the project manager throughout the project life cycle, from initial problem solving and structuring through to the analysis and generation of project outputs, documents and client presentations.
Project manage select engagements (typically with higher complexity, client stakes, etc.).
Practice Development Coach and mentor other consultants, taking personal responsibility for their development.
Support the regional Head of Metals & Mining Consulting in expanding the consulting practice.
Lead and support the development of the global and regional M&M Practice in close collaboration with the relevant leadership teams.
Assist with the development of new consulting offerings, to provide better insights and solutions to our clients.
Lead project reviews to foster continuous improvement (team, team members, etc.).
People Development and Thought Leadership Build and maintain an internal network (across consulting, research, and sales) to deliver the best possible outcomes for our clients and Wood Mackenzie.
Actively support and coach teammates on and off projects as part of the overall consulting practice building for the Americas Consulting Practice.
Formally manage consulting staff, incl.
the review, assessment and development of skills and development targets, etc., advancing the development of consulting skills and processes.
Generate innovative ideas and approaches to industry issues, incl.
the development of insights and other thought leadership pieces, that further enhance the value Wood Mackenzie can create for our clients.
Communication and approach Keep abreast of developments across the metals and mining space, to identify business development opportunities and to provide insightful results to clients.
Collaborate closely with project team members, consultants from other projects / regions / sectors, research and sales teams, etc.
Drive an analytical approach to problem solving and utilize commercial/ strategic intelligence (quality information sources, appropriate methodologies, analytical tool, Wood Mackenzie products, expert input, etc.).
Offer solutions to problems and challenges the status quo.
Qualifications Knowledge & Experience Required Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline such as business, economics, finance, statistics, or engineering (not exhaustive); top tier master's degree and/or MBA preferred.
9+ years of relevant experience in a management consulting or energy-focused consulting role, or other strategic/commercial role related to the M&M industry.
Other industry experience is beneficial but not required.
Experience within consulting with a strong knowledge of consulting processes is important, and a proven track record of growing business within the energy/consulting space is preferable.
Strong understanding of the M&M value chain (mining, processing, refining/smelting, manufacturing, markets, infrastructure, financing), including the implications of the energy transition.
Strong understanding of commercial operations, business models and strategies.
Experience building and maintaining relationships with clients.
Strong presentation skills, including presenting strategic insight to senior management and potential for public speaking engagements at industry conferences.
Superior people management and leadership skills to hone and utilise diverse talents within our team.
