Main duties of the jobWe are pleased to offer an opportunity for an enthusiastic and experienced highly specialist practitioner psychologist to join our Diabetes Psychiatry and Psychology Service (DPPS) as part of the adult diabetes team at King's College Hospital. The successful candidate will provide specialist psychological screening, assessment and treatment to patients with type 1 / complex type 2 diabetes and associated psychological difficulties and become a valuable source of psychological expertise for the multi-disciplinary team (MDT). In addition to direct work with diabetes patients, the embedded nature of this post will ensure frequent opportunities for consultation and teaching within the MDT setting.
Detailed job description and main responsibilitiesA detailed job description is attached. There are opportunities for both individual and group-based interventions which are used in the team to help address issues around adjustment to the condition, effective diabetes management and psychological and emotional wellbeing. Many of the patients seen within the team have complex issues related to multi-morbidity and you will be working alongside experts within the field of diabetes who are experienced and knowledgeable about the psychological impact of living with the condition. The team also has support from a consultant psychiatrist, with whom you will work closely to help manage and support the various levels of mental health needs within the diabetes patient cohort.
Person specificationQualifications, Knowledge and ExperienceEntry-level qualification in Applied Psychology (professional Doctorate, or combination of MSc plus PG Diploma level additional)Additional training in a specialised area of psychological practice through formal post-qualification training (PG Diploma or equivalent), OR a combination of specialist short courses, or an evidenced portfolio of supervised practice–based learning in a specialist area of clinical practice, assessed by an experienced clinical supervisor to be of equal level to a Postgraduate DiplomaCompleted training course in clinical supervision.Registered with the HCPC as Practitioner Psychologist, and evidence of continuing professional development as required by the HCPC.Evidence of having worked with people with medical conditions as a clinical specialist under supervision.Experience of specialist psychological assessment and treatment of clients with a range of complex psychological and physical health needs.Experience of providing teaching and training to psychologists or other professional groups.Competence and/or specialist training in models of health psychology and/or behaviour change (e.g., motivational interviewing).Experience in the provision of cognitive behavioural therapy and/or systemic approaches to therapy.Experience in the psychological management of diabetes.Experience of undertaking and interpreting neuropsychological assessments and writing reports based on the results.Experience in implementing service improvements.Knowledge of the theory and practice of specialised psychological assessments and interventions including for those living with complex medical conditions. Theoretical knowledge of psychopathology and the evidence base for the relevant treatment.
