This is a UK based hybrid role, with travel to our London office (EC4N 6HL) required up to 3-4 times a month.
Job Purpose This role is for a commercially minded Data Scientist (analyst/senior analyst level depending on experience) in the Group Decision Science team.
Our Decision Science team focuses on: Understanding, measuring, and predicting customer behavior.
The team uses both empirical and machine learning techniques to answer questions about customer behaviour in order to optimize collections.
Asset valuation, cash flow and cost projections for portfolios of typically non-performing or distressed assets.
The successful candidate will: Support the growth of the Cabot business through hands-on analytical project work.
CCM operates in the UK, Rep. of Ireland, Spain, France, Portugal, Italy, and Poland.
Work on projects end to end including data extraction and model development, through to operational delivery.
Support the senior data scientists in planning, presenting projects and making the best use of team resources.
Ensure that our customers and customer experience are at the forefront of our thinking and how we approach projects.
Key Accountabilities & Responsibilities Responsible for work streams on projects to deliver statistical and empirical analytics.
Data warehouse interrogation, data collection, sample selection and preparation.
Statistical model building to agreed objectives and deadlines.
Become a subject matter expert on understanding of where our data comes from, how it was created and an appreciation of the context in which it was created, covering customer personal data, credit bureau data, transactional data, digital and telephony data.
Over time should be able to develop commercially viable recommendations.
Look for innovation in CCM statistical modelling techniques, which this role would also contribute to.
Understand consumer behaviour relating to the services provided by CCM.
Work with other teams and departments to ensure modelling output is effectively deployed into the business.
Ensure decision science work carried by business units uses sound statistical methodologies and team project management standards.
Ensure projects are completed in reasonable timescales.
Champion data quality improvement projects undertaken by the business.
Manage/coordinate resources for the operational implementation of projects.
Knowledge & Experience Highly numerate and detail oriented.
Good understanding of the retail credit industry lifecycle covering: Acquisition, Customer management, and Collections & Recoveries.
Minimum of 2 years work experience in an analytical role.
Good knowledge of regression/tree-based algorithms.
An appreciation of different modelling techniques and the circumstances in which they apply.
Experience in deployment, auditing and monitoring live models.
Competent using some ETL and statistical software (e.g.
SAS, Python, R, SQL).
Awareness of the data protection regulatory framework in the EU (GDPR).
PC literate.
MS Excel to a good standard.
Experience in Azure or Databricks is desirable.
