Job summary An opportunity has arisen for a Full Time Data Entry Clerk to join the Cellular Pathology Office Booking In Team.Duties will include receiving and preparing referred cases for reporting; data entry; filing of paperwork; storage and packing of samples.
You will also be required to take an active role in the referral pathway of samples and liaising with third party laboratories.
You will provide strong administrative/data entry support service to the diagnostic team under the supervision of the Office Manager.
You will provide an accurate and timely booking-in service for referred cases, assist with telephone queries.
Main duties of the job The ideal candidate will have experience of working in an appropriate healthcare environment, some theoretical and practical knowledge in disciplines of pathology, good organisational skills, and the ability to work well in a team and also on their own initiative.
Your work must be of a high standard and you must have the ability to maintain confidentiality and be familiar with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
We are looking for someone who is self-motivated, able to multitask and is keen to learn.

To enter patient data into the departmental Laboratory Information System (LIMS); this will mainly be for samples referred from other Trusts, requiring an expert second opinion.
To ensure all material received is labelled correctly and cases are presented to the consultant pathologist in a timely manner.2.
To type simple reports and macroscopic descriptions into the computer.3.
To return slides and blocks to referring institutions when the cases have been reported.4.
To deal with routine telephone, fax and personal enquiries, internal and external, from clinical staff, administrative staff, ensuring that department protocols for the release of information are closely adhered to at all times.
To recognise when a more senior person needs to deal with the enquiry.5.
To perform general clerical duties including filing, photocopying, printing and postal duties, confidential waste management, collection and distribution of incoming mail, location and collection of medical records.6.
To monitor and conduct simple maintenance of printer, fax and photocopier machines and toutilise word processing systems (including the voice recognition and digital dictation system), as appropriate.7.
To assist when necessary with the accurate booking in of all referral cases on the LIMS, 8.
To attend regular office team and 1-2-1 meetings to discuss and assist in implementing improvements for the service.9.
To assist in other sections or locations when required.
Person Specification Experience Essential Experience in an appropriate office environment.
Previous use of computers in a business or healthcare setting.
Skills and Abilities Essential Typing speed of at least 60 wpm.
Good organisational skills.
Basic numeracy skills To handle confidential material.
To provide and receive information in English verbally, in writing or electronically.
To work in a team To deal with and relay messages accurately and in a timely fashion To work on own initiative Qualifications Essential 5 GSCE passes at A-C grade including Maths and English Evidence of keyboard training or data input.
