Consultant Psychiatrist HMP The Verne & HMP PortlandThe post holder will be eligible for inclusion in the Specialist Register in Forensic Psychiatry or General Adult Psychiatry.
The primary duties of the post holder will include consultant leadership for the Mental Health In-reach Team at the prisons. 4 DCC will be divided as follows:
1 day per week at HMP Portland. 2 PA DCC1 day per week at HMP The Verne. 2 PA DCCThe post holder will have 2 SPA allocated in their job plan for undertaking activities that support the professional role such as teaching, training, clinical management, clinical governance, service development and other relevant activities. There are no on-call responsibilities associated with this post.
Main duties of the jobClinical work - HMP Portland & HMP The Verne Assessing and reviewing prisoners; and working in collaboration with MDT and prisoners to formulate management plans that are then incorporated into individualised care plans.Liaising with services outside the prison to arrange CPAs, aftercare plans or transfers to hospital.Providing expert advice and guidance for individuals with complex mental state and risk presentation.Actively involved or lead MDT meetings within the service.Any other care which could reasonably be expected of a consultant acting in an in-reach capacity in a prison.Involved in quality improvement initiatives, to be agreed with multidisciplinary colleagues and the service managers.The post holder will work closely with the Service Manager and consultant colleagues in the prisons, Associate Clinical Director and the Clinical Directors for the Forensics and Prisons. There is protected time for administrative work, as well as protected time to deal with mental health act related work if indicated.

IFY OKOCHA Job responsibilitiesWorkload at HMP Portland & HMP The Verne The mental health team holds a caseload and within this caseload, a number of patients would be subject to CPA management. All referrals are screened by the mental health team. On occasion, assessments are requested as an emergency from the wings or segregation unit. This is variable but on average a couple of times a week. Whilst there is flexibility in allocation of individual responsibilities, the overarching model is one of integrated working across the mental health multidisciplinary teams.
This post-holder will have his or her base at HMP Portland and HMP The Verne for the allocated PAs, where the mental health service comprises a full multidisciplinary team, including mental health practitioners, occupational therapists, Recovery workers, and a psychology team, supported by a clinical lead.
