Job summary Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust seeks to appoint a Consultant Gynaecologist to join its dynamic and ambitious team.
This is a replacement Consultant post that seeks to enhance the provision of specialist Gynaecology Oncology care at the hospital.
The post holder will have proven extensive gynaecology oncology experience and have weekly oncology outpatient clinics, operating, rapid access PMB and colposcopy sessions as well as MDT sessions.The candidate will join a large, cohesive team of 24 consultants providing general and specialised obstetrics and gynaecology services to the population of East Hampshire and neighbouring areas.
The post will be based at the Queen Alexandra Hospital, Portsmouth.
The job plan will initially be based on ten programmed activities and will include participation in the gynaecology on-call rota.Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust has 4 DaVinci surgical robots and a well-established cross speciality surgical robotic programme.
Gynaecology Oncology is actively involved in this programme and the new appointee would be invited to help further develop the programme if desired.
Main duties of the job The remit of the post holder is to join the current team of four gynaecological oncologists (one part-time) with support from clinical nurse specialists and sub speciality trainee.
The post holder would be expected to be competent in open, laparoscopic and vaginal surgery for gynaecological malignancy and have proven and extensive acute gynaecology experience.The hospital also provides clinical support for St Richard's Hospital in Chichester.
Multidisciplinary team meetings occur weekly.The Maternity Service has been graded "GOOD" by the Care Quality Commission in February 024.
The unit delivers approximately 5,200 babies per annum across our hospitals and community centres.
We have 1 Obstetric Labour Ward based at Queen Alexandra Hospital and 3 Midwifery led units - B5 ward (at QAH), St Mary's Hospital and Blake's at Gosport War Memorial Hospital.
We also have facilities for home births with our community teams.We provide both general antenatal clinical services and specialist clinics.
Specialist clinics include Maternal Medicine, Fetal Medicine, Multiple Birth Clinic, Preterm Birth and Perinatal Mental Health among others.Our Maternity Assessment Unit is located on the Labour Ward and run by a dedicated team of core midwives.
It runs 24/7 and can see up to 1000 patients per month.
We proudly use the Birmingham Symptom Specific Obstetric Triage System (BSOTS) to optimise patient safety and care pathways.

A project is on-going to convert this into an Obstetric High Dependency Unit.We are proud of our Level 3 Bliss accredited Neonatal unit, who accept national referrals for babies from 22 weeks and 6 days.
The Neonatal unit has 14 intensive care cots, 19 dependency / special care cots and one intensive care isolation cot.
They provide some of the most complex and pioneering medical care, including total body cooling, HFOV, NO therapy and laser ROP.Total Hours 40Total PAs 10 (Supporting professional activities = 2);Direct clinical Care (including unpredictable on-call = 8)On-call rota 1 in 7; on call supplement 5% agreed category A.The post is available immediately, however an appointee may need to give three months to their current employer.

Person Specification Qualifications Essential Full GMC registration On the GMC Specialist Register, or within 6 months of receiving CCT (or equivalent) in Gynaecology Oncology MRCOG or equivalent approved by PMETB Completion of RCOG sub speciality in Gynaecological Oncology or equivalent Candidate must demonstrate extensive skills and experience in the laparoscopic and open surgical management of Gynaecology Oncology and acute gynaecological emergencies.
BSCCP accredited Colposcopist or equivalent.
Knowledge of clinical and technical skills to provide a Consultant Service in Gynaecology Oncology.
