University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation TrustApplications are invited for an enthusiastic, dedicated colleague to join our team at Good Hope Hospital. As UHB is the largest teaching hospital trust in the UK, all aspects of specialist working in Gastroenterology/Hepatology are catered for. This post is to provide fixed sessions at Good Hope Hospital site, as part of a planned work expansion. A variety of subspeciality interests are welcome. Clinical responsibility includes outpatient, and endoscopy lists as well as supporting inpatient care which is shared on a 7-day consultant of the week model, and also participate in the weekday cross-site GI bleed rota. Successful candidates will be encouraged and supported to further develop their own skills and will also be expected to be involved in Undergraduate and Postgraduate education and research.
Main duties of the jobThe post holders will be responsible, together with other members of the department for the provision of a high-quality gastroenterology service to complement the existing sub-specialisation within the department. The final job plan would be agreed on appointment; however, the successful candidate would be expected to undertake a mix of general gastroenterology, endoscopy, GI Bleed on call and ward cover. Development of a sub-speciality interest is encouraged. Depending on the needs of the department, the job plan could have elements of flexible working or annualised sessions. The successful candidate will also be expected to undertake the following:
To contribute and complement the clinical delivery and development of a specialist service provision. All aspects of GI disease complexity are welcome and can cover Nutrition Services, Hepatology, IBD, Bowel Cancer Screening, and Interventional Endoscopy.To manage an average of 2-3 endoscopy sessions and average of 2-3 outpatient clinics per week dependent on specialist interests and job planning.To participate in the acute gastroenterology ward rota.To participate in the management of inpatient gastroenterology services.To participate in the emergency GI Bleed service.To provide specialist advice to colleagues.To work to directorate agreed management guidelines.About usWe are recognised as one of the leading NHS Foundation Trusts in the UK. Success in this role will see you taking part in a 7-day rota where you will utilise your broad experience of Gastroenterology, and be clinically responsible for outpatient and endoscopy lists, inpatient care and GI bleeding.
A subspeciality interest will be encouraged and supported.

For any additional information, please contact Dr Mark Andrew on the following ****** Person SpecificationQualificationsEntered on GMC RegisterExperienceEligible for inclusion on the GMC specialist register in gastroenterology & general medicine or equivalentInitiatives that demonstrate enthusiasm and commitment to the assessment and care of patients with gastrointestinal diseaseExperience of managing liver disease.Experience working in a unit managing complex IBD.Enhanced endoscopic skills such as EUS, ESD and Halo are all welcome.Experience working in a unit managing complex nutrition/TPN cases.Formal tuition and/or qualification in teaching/training skillsDisclosure and Barring Service CheckThis post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
