Job summary East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust is seeking to appoint a Consultant Colorectal Surgeon.East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust is a very busy, high volume centre providing all aspect of Subspecialist Colorectal, HPB and general surgical treatment with state of the art facilities.
The successful applicant will join the general surgery teamThe Trust has an established a colorectal robotic surgery service and hosts the Lancashire Women's & Newborn Endometriosis Centre led by the Gynaecologists.
We are looking to further enhance our services in pelvic floor disease, as well as our minimally invasive IBD service with the gastroenterology service.
Skills in transanal surgery and complex abdominal wall reconstructions will also be looked upon favourably.This creates an exciting time for prospective candidates to be part of an expanding surgical service.
A higher degree and ongoing research interests are desirable.
Main duties of the job The appointee should have a broad training in general surgery with competency in both elective and emergency general surgery.
The appointee will be expected to participate in the General Surgical on-call rota which is 1:16.The applicant should be keen, hardworking and have willingness to work flexibly as a team member.
This is especially important as the department is currently looking to deliver a transformed model of working in keeping with national 7 day standards and clinical excellence.

The post is based across our two main sites the Royal Blackburn Teaching Hospital and Burnley General Teaching Hospital.

Job description Job responsibilities Be expected to provide a patient centred service, respecting the privacy, dignity and choice of individual patients.
They will be responsible along with General Surgery colleagues for the provision of outpatient and inpatient services within the East Lancashire Hospital Trust.Aim to deliver high quality care with the help of the existing surgical team.Be a team player and flexible with your approach.Be involved in complex clinical, patient management problems and multi-disciplinary planning treatment.On appointment the candidate will have a prescribed number of theatre sessions to deliver during the financial year and an associated level of activity.Share in administrative duties allocated by mutual agreement within the Directorate.Ensure all dictation of clinical letters within 24 hours (mandatory).Observe and comply with clinical and non-clinical policies and procedures (including local and national employment and personnel policies) agreed with employees and in particular, the post holder will be responsible for updating policies and guidelines for the General Surgery service along with colleagues, which should be reviewed annually.Provide support to the complaints process (this may include attending complaint meetings with patients, families and their relatives).Be closely involved in clinical audit and other clinical governance issues.Support the Trainees and Trust Doctors in the daily duties and on-going learning.
