Job summary A modernised clinical pathology service, proud to deliver excellence for users, patients and staff.
Applications are invited for a Consultant Clinical Scientist (band 8C) to lead our Tumour Marker Specialist Service within Blood Sciences at North West London Pathology (NWLP).
NWLP is a partnership between Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, Chelsea & Westminster NHS Trust and The Hillingdon Hospitals NHS Trust.
The partnership represents a new model for delivering pathology testing in a modern, efficient operation that manages 25 million tests per year.
Our services are delivered at six hospital sites across North West London.
The Clinical Biochemistry Service, one of the largest in the UK, provides core services in automated laboratories on each site with specialist services centralised at Charing Cross Hospital.
Specialist services, including a number of SAS centres, comprise Endocrinology, Trace Elements, Tumour Markers, Molecular Urology, Metabolic Biochemistry, Special Proteins andf the DEQAS viatind D EQA programme; all have strong Clinical Scientist leadership.
The successful applicant should hold FRCPath with experience in all areas of routine biochemistry.
Main duties of the job Your main responsibility will be to lead the Tumour Marker Specialist Service linked to the National Choriocarcinoma Service commissioned by NHS England.
In particular, you will play an essential role in maintaining and developing the hCG assays used for this internationally leading SAS accredited service.Once appointed you should expect to play a full role in maintaining and developing all of our tumour marker assays and services, leading associated R&D and be involved with our Scientist Training Programme and other teaching.

NWLP Induction The NWLP induction will run on the first Monday of each month (provided it does not fall on a bank holiday) and includes laboratory training (for relevant laboratory roles).
All new staff must attend the NWLP induction during their first week with NWLP.

Person Specification Education Essential Healthcare Professions Council Registration MSc FRCPath or or equivalent 1st / 2nd class Hons degree Skills Essential High level of technical competence and ability to supervise staff in specialist section of the laboratory Knowledge of current trends in Pathology provision.
Competence in PC word processing, spreadsheet and database software.
Good written and oral communication skills.
Ability to work with high level of autonomy.
Flexibility.
Reliable and trustworthy.
Self-motivated.
Desirable Experience in using and managing a LIMS.
Experience of project supervision Ability to learn from experience Experience Essential Extensive experience at a supervisory level in specialist area.
Proven experience of training Scientific, Medical and technical staff.
High level of knowledge of all aspects of specialist subject.
Evidence of active CPD Record of training at all levels Desirable Ability to carry out development projects Evidence of continuing professional development Ability to develop personal IT skills as required.
