PQE 2- 7 Ortus Group are working closely with a highly ambitious international law firm to help to attract and recruit a highly skilled Construction Associate.
The firm are expanding the highly regarded London-based Construction, Engineering & Projects team due to increasing client demand.
The full-service construction law team offers comprehensive transactional advice, dispute avoidance, and resolution services for large-scale projects both in the UK and internationally.
The practice are known for representing a diverse range of clients, with a strong focus on real estate developers, housebuilders, property investment firms, contractors, subcontractors, and major engineering consultancies.
Additionally, we assist our private clients with high-value residential construction projects.
What the team do: The transactional services encompass procurement advice for construction projects, various domestic and international construction contracts, and related documentation including consultant appointments, trade contracts, collateral warranties, parent company guarantees, and performance bonds.
For dispute resolution, the firm provide guidance on all methods (adjudication, arbitration, litigation, mediation, and expert determination) and strategic advice to ensure effective and cost-efficient resolutions while achieving optimal outcomes.
This is an excellent opportunity to engage in a wide range of contentious and non-contentious construction matters, with a current emphasis on contentious work.
We are particularly interested in candidates with experience in UK adjudications and Technology and Construction Court (TCC) litigation.
The successful candidate will enjoy substantial responsibility and client interaction in a supportive, collaborative environment.
Key Responsibilities: Represent national and international clients in complex, high-value construction disputes, including UK adjudications, arbitrations, and TCC litigation.
Conduct dispute advisory work, including alternative dispute resolution (ADR) methods such as mediation.
Handle a variety of issues, including final account disputes, delay claims, construction insolvency, bond claims, ACM cladding, fire safety defects, professional indemnity, and other insurance-related matters.
Advise governmental bodies, sponsors, funders, developers, employers, constructors, subcontractors, and professional teams on dispute avoidance, resolution strategies, and project procurement techniques.
Maintain and cultivate relationships with existing clients, providing timely, high-quality advice while managing expectations.
Collaborate with team members to deliver large-scale, high-value client projects to the highest standards.
Assist in drafting, negotiating, and advising on construction contracts, consultant appointments, collateral warranties, financial securities, letters of intent, and reliance letters.
Contribute to group knowledge sharing, marketing efforts, and best practices.
Ensure compliance with all relevant legal and regulatory requirements, including those set by the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA).
Candidate Profile: Qualified solicitor (England & Wales) or equivalent with 2-7 years PQE, with the ability to integrate seamlessly into teams.
Proven experience in contentious construction work, particularly in UK adjudications, TCC litigation, and arbitration, as well as other dispute resolution methods (mediation, expert determination, etc.).
Strong verbal and written communication skills with a diverse clientele and technical experts.
Excellent time management and stakeholder engagement abilities.
Capability to build effective relationships at all levels while aligning with the firm's culture and team dynamics.
Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively as needed.
Flexible and willing to go the extra mile.
Experience with TCC cases related to fire safety litigation is a significant advantage.
