MSK Physiotherapy Services at Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Trust are looking to recruit a dynamic and experienced physiotherapist to join our team as Clinical Lead in Chronic Pain.
The post-holder will play a key role, alongside our Advanced Physiotherapy Practitioner in Pain, in helping to re-design physiotherapy pain services in line with latest guidelines and provide support and training to the wider physiotherapy team.
The ability to build relationships with other services involved in the care of patients with chronic pain is essential.
We seek a motivated and innovative individual with strong communication and problem-solving skills and will offer support for training and development as required for this post.
Candidates must have previous NHS physiotherapy experience either as an undergraduate or postgraduate to be eligible to apply for this post For informal enquiries or visits please contact Lindsay Hawker, MSK Physiotherapy Services Team Lead on 07500 765356 Interviews will be held week commencing 16th December 2024 Main duties of the job To perform highly specialist assessment and treatment of patients, in particular those with Persistent Pain, to facilitate a smooth, efficient and effective patient pathwayTo determine a clinical diagnosis, develop, deliver, implement, evaluate and modify individualised treatment programmes and/or provide highly specialist advice, ensuring appropriate pathways of care and communication via liaison and referral to other agencies as required.To manage own highly specialist caseload in this area.Establish relationships with other stakeholders and services involved in the care of chronic pain patients.To support and advise other pain services, eg Pain Clinic, on the delivery of the service.To educate and train Physiotherapists and qualified and non-qualified healthcare / social services / education staff including medical staff.To work autonomously within Trust policies and standards of professional practice, maintaining accurate and comprehensive up to date records.To assist the Team Leader in the daily operational management of the Out-Patient Physiotherapy Team.
About us There are extensive Learning Centres at both Calderdale Royal Hospital and Huddersfield Royal Infirmary, both centres are equipped with audio-visual equipment.
There is also a library at the Calderdale Hospital site with a full range of journals plus intranet and electronic access.In 2015 the Trust invested in a purpose built simulated 2 bed ward at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary which can be altered to be an emergency medicine bay, a theatre/ICU area or a clinic setting.
There is also a simulation training room at Calderdale Royal Hospital equipped with control rooms.
There are simulation manikins on both site, SimMan 3G, SimMom, SimJunior and SimBaby.
All healthcare workers are able to access relevant training sessions for their role.
Job description Job responsibilities To work within the Out-Patient Physiotherapy Service leading, co-ordinating and developing effective clinical interventions within the speciality of, but not exclusive to, persistent Pain in order to advance clinical practice across the service in line with the current evidence baseTo manage autonomously a clinical workload of patients/clients at a highly specialist level, assessing and treating patients and maintaining clinicaTo have highly specialist assessment and treatment skills in the areas listed but not limited toPhysical rehabilitation through manual therapyPhysical rehabilitation through exercise and functionPhysical rehabilitation through pain relief: could include acupuncture, injection therapy, electrotherapy etc.Complex bio-psychosocial assessment of patients and carersCognitive and perceptual understanding of condition/personFalls assessmenTo apply evidence based knowledge within the highly specialist clinical area.
This knowledge will have been acquired through experience and academic studyTo act as a resource to provide advice for relevant members of staff about the assessment, treatment, management and care of patients / clients who have Persistent Pain and/or complex psychosocial needsTo work collaboratively with other providers involved in the patients care including medical and surgical consultants, health and social care community and acutTo take a lead, and work with any appropriate member of staff to ensure effective care pathways and transfer of care/dischargesTo proactively and appropriately facilitate a seamless transfer of care and continuing therapeutic management of physiotherapy outpatient patients between care settingsTo work collaboratively in an interdisciplinary manner with any appropriate member of staff, being able to debate the blurring of boundaries if appropriateTo develop highly specialist programmes of assessment, treatment and intervention for physiotherapy patients in particular those with Persistent PainTo manage and prioritise own clinical workload as appropriate, working efficiently to manage professional time and delegate according to the training and competency levels of other team members to ensure the effective delivery of the service Person Specification QUALIFICATIONS / TRAINING Essential Relevant Degree/Diploma Registered with HCPC Evidence of relevant post graduate training Desirable Clinical Educator Training Member of Professional Body Study to Masters level or equivalent Leadership Training KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE & EXPERTISE Essential Experience of managing patients with chronic pain conditions, including psychologically informed physiotherapy, and a good understanding of alternative approaches.
Able to demonstrate mastery/fluency in at least one approach Excellent communication skills including talking and listening as well as being aware of non-verbal communication Motivational Interviewing and working with stakeholders Able to demonstrate advanced decision making / clinical reasoning skill in MSK Physiotherapy through the analysis and interpretation of the clinical examination Significant NHS experience as a senior physiotherapist Ability to manage customer expectation dealing with complaints Experience Developing Staff Supervision, PDR's Proven ability to case manage clients with complex needs Ability to identify own learning needs and engage in self-directed learning for CPD Ability to identify learning needs of others.
Demonstrate Reflective Practice and evidence of experiential learning Knowledge of relevant guidelines and NHS policies Teaching/presentation skills Extensive experience and reflective practice in physiotherapy including substantial experience of treating complex conditions with an emphasis on a particular speciality Current knowledge of evidence based practise relevant to the position Relevant and comprehensive evidence of Life Long Learning and post-graduation training Knowledge and use of the bio-psychosocial approach Desirable Experience in planning, allocating and delegating tasks Recent experience working at band 7 level COMMUNICATION AND RELATIONSHIPS (INCLUDING MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES) Essential Experience in contributing to service improvements Critical Appraisal Skills.
