Job summary Clinical Lead Physiotherapist in Cancer Services Department: Therapies Band 7 £46,148 - £52,809 Per annum pro rata Hours: per week, all MKUH roles will be considered for flexible working Our Therapy Department is currently looking for an experienced and enthusiastic Band 7 clinical lead physiotherapist to become part of our therapy team for our Cancer Centre.
Working as part of a dedicated and skilled Cancer Services team you will be providing a holistic therapy approach to cancer patients in an inpatient setting.
There is a strong expectation to collaborate with all members of the MDT to ensure the complex needs of patients are always at the centre of your care.
You will have the opportunity to work alongside a dedicated OT for cancer services, and an outpatient physio lead employed by McMillan services.
We also have close links with the local Willen Hospice.
Previous experience of working within an inpatient and cancer setting are essential.

For further information or an informal discussion please contact Laura Sturgeon, Inpatient Therapy Service Lead, via Physiotherapy reception on 01908 995432 or alternatively email Interview date: 16th December 2024 Main duties of the job To be responsible for providing advanced physiotherapeutic assessments of patients within the oncology service who may have diverse presentations and complex physical and psychological conditions, to provide a diagnosis and develop and deliver an individualised treatment programme in relation to oncology patients and other inpatients across the Trust.
To lead on the development of the oncology inpatient service both within the Cancer Centre and across the Trust.
Patients will be assessed and treated in a variety of different settings including outpatients, inpatients and community as required by the area of clinical specialty.
To work in collaboration with other Band 7 Leads and the Therapy Lead to jointly provide clinical leadership, in the delivery of a high quality service for patients in area of speciality.
To lead in the absence of the Complex Medicine Leads to support them in the delivery and development of area of clinical speciality.
To contribute to the development of a Therapy Services vision and strategy in conjunction with the wider Trust and other divisional strategies, ensuring that opportunities for development and collaborative working are promoted.
The post holder will have knowledge of emerging clinical developments, provide advice to inform service development in the speciality in support of the appropriate Therapy Lead.

To actively participate in relevant forums and lead a rolling programme of education, clinical evaluation audit and research within area of speciality.
To review the setting of staffing levels/skill mix in accordance with the changing needs of the service and informing the Therapy Lead of any problems that may arise.
To act as a source of expertise in specialist area for patients, carers, medical staff and other health professionals, GPs and colleagues.
Clinical Practice To be professionally and legally accountable for all aspects of your own work.
Ensure a high standard of clinical care for the patients under your management by supporting more junior staff to do likewise.
To accept clinical responsibility for a designated caseload of patients and to organise this effectively and efficiently with regard to clinical priorities and use of time.
To oversee the caseloads of more junior staff.
Leadership and Management To provide clinical leadership to the complex medicine team in conjunction with the Physiotherapy, Occupational complex medicine Team Leads.
To provide professional leadership to the Physiotherapy staff within oncology and complex medicine team.
Professional Duties Maintain own competency to practice through CPD activities, demonstrating awareness of new trends and developments and their incorporation into practice as necessary.
Actively participate in the in-service training programmes by attending and delivering presentations, tutorials, individual training sessions, peer review, external courses and professional clinical interest groups.
Governance Demonstrate a sound understanding of Clinical Governance and Risk Management and their application to work situation.
Assess and manage clinical risk within patient caseload in a wide variety of settings.

Person Specification Qualifications and Knowledge Essential Registration in relevant profession with Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) Masters Level qualification/or with equivalent level of knowledge and experience Evidence of a range of specialist continuing professional development Student Supervisory Skills training Management or leadership training or qualification Awareness of NHS and Trust systems, policies, procedures and current changes Sound therapeutic and clinical knowledge Ability to demonstrate knowledge and awareness of national guidelines relevant to specialist area Ability to demonstrate knowledge of evidence based clinical practice for a range of conditions relevant to area of specialty Desirable Member of relevant specialist interest group (Relevant to area of speciality) Relevant post graduate clinical qualification Membership of relevant professional association Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP) Experience Essential Significant experience in applying Therapeutic process to include assessment, interpretation, individual care planning, motivation, monitoring and evaluation of highly specialised treatment in area of specialty Experience of working with patients in relevant specialist area Active member of multi-disciplinary team (MDT) including liaison with clinical specialists, GP, specialist nurses, community teams etc.
